I don't think anyone is saying that Torino will fail, but most of us are a little curious as to how we wind up with FIU's HC when we had approached the Arizona HC, and then hired the Bama HC.

Its FREAKIN' softball, for GAWD's sake!!!

What's 'confusing' about it? Maybe Aleva had a list of his top coaches. This one was obviously near the top. And....

They dont all have to have the exact same background ya know.

I'm assuming we don't have to pay her $200k+. That is the good news.

Nikki Caldwell should cover her salary. She's paid about 5x more than she's worth.

Maybe we can get Rummel to meet her at the airport and scream

"BOOOO!! We want a WINNER. Not a LOSER!"

Really fair to say before she ever coaches a game here. It's really gonna put a dent in your spending money too huh?

I don't doubt that her name may have been on his list, but I find it hard to believe that she was a serious contender until now.

Candrea
Murphy
Lawson
Notre Dame coach
Torina ?????

I'll be honest, i have no idea if this hire sucks or is a homerun.......because its softball.

The voice of reason. It's fricking women's softball, not something worthy of the normal sky is falling routine.

He better have.

Is that right? If she was so near the top, then why wasn't this announcement made right after Habetz said no?

Yeah, when they coach at schools like LSU, they kinda do.

Lawson came out and said that she was very interested. She never got an interview because Murphy fricked that up for us.

Notre Dame coach accepted an offer to interview, bought plane tickets and everything, then suddenly backed out.

Dead God really? There's so much wrong with your post I dont know where to start.

And I didn't say she was Aleva's top pick but top 5 is near the top. Also good luck with limiting yourself to coaches that all have the exact same background. If that was the LSU policy we would still only have 1 national title in football.

Murphy severely fricked us, period. And his actions fricked us for other coaches as well. I really don't care about women's softball but I loathe that dude.

And I didn't say that you did, but please tell me in what range do you consider to be 'near the top'?

WHAT?

Saban was the HC for a major school in a major conference.

Miles was the HC for a major school in a major conference.

You keep putting words in my posts...

you have no idea what happened to make him change his mind. i dont think you should judge without all the information. for him to make such a bold move shows me that there is a lot that we dont know

Wonder what the rant would have thought about the Skip Bertman hire in the 80s.

Completely retarded statement. Bertman came from Miami that was coming off a National Championship. Don't even try to compare FIU Softball to Miami Baseball as a similar career path.

Two completely different animals.

I don't care if it was grounded in the best intentions in the world. The guy was a total unprofessional hack in this entire thing and it not only cost LSU our original pick, but about four other picks as well. The guy is a dumbass, and it's tough to figure out a way to have another perspective on the matter.

You call that a "bold" move?
