Nick Saban's record at Michigan St. was underwhelming (on paper) as well.

True....but we didn't hire Saban after being turned down by a top sitting coach at the time.

She is young and may yet turn out to be a good coach. It's just that compared to stealing Murphy from Bama, hiring her is a big letdown.

Was Saban an exciting hire? Miles? Mainieri?

Maybe not, but they all had experience at high-level schools...

......and she is owned in the Sun-Belt, year after year, by the Cajuns.

lol...

When did I say he was?

But he did come from a program that was definitely used to being incredibly successful at a high level.

IDK how we don't get contracts signed before holding a fricking press conference naming him coach. Just gave Bama a chance to match/beat our offer.

Also, I woulda settled for the Allison Hablitz (sp?). She's got some heat around her as an up-n-coming coach, I think is from the area, & seemed really excited about the move. Wonder if we offered

Maybe she can turn that around now.

Plenty of contracts aren't signed before press conferences just agreed upon.

LSU baseball at the time Skip was hired, was pretty insignificant. They hired a guy who was a part of a great program coming off a CWS title.

These two situations are not comprable

I agree. It's too bad the Kentucky coach slipped through because of Murphy. Hopefully, this hire will turn out great for us though.

Here's a good comparable example: Gene Chizik.

People at Auburn rioted when he was hired.

Exactly.

Look, she could turn out to be the next Mike Candrea (well, prolly not) but after landing one of the top coaches in the country, getting Hefnered, then settling for FIU's coach...ugh.

not a good comparison because we aren't paying softball players 200k

And according to most of this board, so is softball. Would the rant have approved of LSU going get an assistant from Arizona State?

So we're going to buy the best team we can so the FIU coach can win?

The exception isn't necessarily the rule. Torina could be Gene Chizik or just as easily be Ron Zook.

Or heaven forbid Curley Hallman.
