Even though I was a big Aranda fan, I feel like we did not force as many turnovers under him outside of Greedy, Delpit, and Stingley picking off passes. I’m pretty sure we have only scored three defensive touchdowns over the last four years when in the past we were sometimes scoring at least three defensive touchdowns a season. Our DL is absolutely loaded and with Pelini’s style we will be getting pressure on the QB more and probably forcing more turnovers. I’m really looking forward to this defense they’re gonna be scary good.

Defensive TDs have more to do with where the turnover happens.

I am gonna do a deep dive into the stats and ill report back

I woudln't be surprised if we had a better turnover rate when Pelini was here. He just had a much better DL to work with. Aranda only had a consistent pass rush in 2016 when Key was superman. We've has serious personelle issues every year since with the exception of this year.

Our pass rush has been garbage for a while now. 2000-2010 decade was the best we ever had. Since then it’s been a big drop off overall with less talent on the DL on average. Fewer sacks and strips in the backfield means fewer turnovers for TD.

Not an Aranda fan. Glad he's gone. Tired of the bend, don't break crap. Hard to get "pressure" turnovers rushing only three 330 pd lineman most of the time. Looking forward to this different defensive approach. We'll see.

The defense had 5 TDs in 2011 alone.

we know, even when the D played great you trashed aranda. You never gave him credit when the D played good. Even against Clemson you bitched about how terrible aranda was. Trust me we know you hate him

Aranda defenses averaged 36.5 sacks per season, second only to Pelini since 2005, over his tenure, never having less than 34.

I could get info back to 2005 for defensive averages on sacks and turnovers. Information below

Aranda
2016-2019
36.5 sacks/yr
13.75 int/yr
6.25 fum/yr
20 to/yr

Steele
2015
34 sacks/yr
10 int/yr
6 fum/yr
16 to/yr

Chavis
2009-2014
29.17 sacks/yr
14.83 int/yr
6.83 fum/yr
21.67 to/yr

Mallory
2006-2008
28 sacks/yr
8 int/yr
11 fum/yr
19 to/yr

Pelini
2005-2007
38.33 sacks/yr
16.33 int/yr

7.33 fum/yr
23.67 to/yr

Edited to fix a total brain fart. Thanks AtlTiger

uhhh, Crowton was an OC.

this is a really weird mashup of Pelini's last year (07), Malveto's 1 (08), and Chavis's first 2 (09-10).

all good.

as far as Pelini goes, I seem to remember the defense having some rather average forced turnover numbers in 05 and 06. then in preseason 07, either he or Les (pretty sure it was Les) said that we'd look to force more turnovers, and we wound up as one of the top teams in the country.

Yeah, he was decent prior to 07,but 07 put him over the top.

You know the old saying "they gonna miss me when I'm gone..."

I am afraid that could be the case with Aranda. Posters on here want to compare Aranda defenses to Pellini defenses and the two eras are not even the same. Aranda had to build defenses to control the proliferation of spread offenses that just were not around in 2005-07. I dont think Pellini will fail by any means but there just are not that many teams out there that are gashing LSU with the run game. The best performance out there this year was Ole Miss.

Despite what I hear on here that the 4-3 will be better for pass rush it is generally inferior as a overall pass defense vs the 3-4. The offenses of today are designed to make you cover the entire field and hence the transition to lighter and faster players.

We held three top 5 teams to 300, 350, and 400 yds offense in the last three games of the season. It wasnt because we were bigger and overpowering, it was because we were faster to attack. I would rather bend than just plain break which is what UGA and Clemson defenses did...

With losing Burrow I get the Pelini hire. We will be more aggressive on D and create more turnovers which will be crucial in adjusting to life w/o Burrow. It will put a lot less pressure on Brennan too.
