He needs to start batting as well. He can manufacture his own run support

What’s sad is teams in some cases probably pitch off rather than go head to head with Skenes and still gets no support.
Pretty abysmal.
If I were an offensive player and was playing like a pussy I’d have a hard time looking Skenes in the eyes in meetings.

it’s like 3 years he will be traded to a contender before the allstar break.

Na….The Astros are going to swoop in and grab him for a year or two like they did with Cole.

Obviously you don’t follow the Pirates. They traded Gerritt Cole for a couple bags of peanuts and a Coke. Two years later he signed the biggest FA contract for a pitcher in MLB history.

BTW, he’s due to hit arbitration after next season. I’d be willing to ban bet you he’s traded before that. The Pirates WILL NOT pay him what he’s worth!

He’ll be traded before the end of next year. He’s due to hit arbitration after next year.

I have a feeling he will set an arbitration record after next season.

He absolutely will. That’s why the Pirates will trade him before he hits arbitration!

NO ONE “pitches off” in MLB in July. It’s 162 games. You let players face the situations they’re in. That’s how you figure out your high leverage contributors for the playoffs if your team is good enough!

That’s a year and a half away. This was about the trade deadline.

I looked at opposing teams ERA when they pitch against Paul Skenes and the Pirates in the 16 games (out of 19) where he gets minimal support.

1.94 ERA (full 9 inning game ERA) when teams pitch against Skenes in those 16 games.

Skenes pitching against Skenes.

Since his last win, he has 5 losses and 8 no decisions.

He pitched for the Pirates for FIVE years. If that’s your comp, let’s revisit this in 2029

Well this is just bullshite lol. At the time, it was a pretty good haul. Musgrove has been more than solid and still is to this day & Moran was a great prospect and had a couple really good years before injuries set in. Quit talking out ya arse

No he didn’t! He pitched for them for 4 years. He had 1 year of arbitration then they traded him after the 2nd arbitration meeting!

Wanna bet? First off the Astros gave up 4 players for Cole. None were named Kyle Rucker or Forrest Whitley. The Astros two top prospects at the time. The fact that you can only name two of the four should tell you something! Moran was a dud as was always going to be. The Astros realized that early. Musgrove has just found success the last couple of years in San Diego. So again, the Astros gave up nothing for Cole.

Probably the greatest pitcher in the game today

He's not even the best pitcher in the NL this season. Wheeler just went a full game striking out 12 yesterday. He's also given up 1 run or less in nine of his last 10 starts.

Yea, I’d put Skubal & Wheeler ahead but it’s really splitting hairs.
