In an interview with Dandydon, Mainieri was asked about the bullpen. He says, "Floyd, Edwards, Money and Fowler have the potential of being more complete pitchers than the veterans in the bullpen."

Edwards- A stud basketball player in high school that never focused fully on baseball. Yet Mainieri mentions him as the only one of the four to have complete control over 3 pitches. Mainieri mentions him as the possible sleeper of the class in his bio, and that looks to becoming a true statement.

Money- 6'7" 261 lbs and has been in the limelight since youth (played in little league world series). I have to imagine that his size was the biggest part of his youth success. I'm a little disappointed that he doesn't possess more power for that size, but the potential is still there.

Floyd- The top ranked pitcher to make it to campus and had one of the top fastballs in high school, low to mid 90's with explosive life. So far he has lived up to potential and will play a big role this year.

Fowler- He has not been mentioned as much as the other three. Flew under the radar a bit in high school (injury, covid) but was mentioned by Mainieri in the interview. In his bio "unequivocally one of the most talented pitchers in the class". This could be a player to watch.

Mainieri talks later in the article about Javen Coleman, "he could throw an inning opening night and then start for us midweek". Mainieri has mentioned Coleman before has a player with starter potential. BTW he is a lefty.

Thanks for posting this.

The headliners of the freshmen class were the position guys but there are some great young arms that will move up quickly.

That's really interesting. I know they want to have a LHP starter and were trying to make Kaminer that last year until the season was shut down.

ETA: Mainieri also said yesterday in a press availability that they may pause on Hellmers pitching for right now and let him focus on hitting, with a chance to play 3rd.

They seem to not really like the way the left side of the infield is shaping up right now. But it also seems like they have some confidence in the way the pitching staff is looking.

Coleman got up to 95.9 mph last may in a workout. He was also a 2 way player in high school. Kid is super athletic & can’t wait to see him throw

From what I’ve seen of Floyd it seems like his FB plays up, hitters probably don’t see it well with that short arm action. And then he varies his delivery to throw them off even more.

The Hellmers news surprises me a lot actually. He was known as a good hitter in high school, high intellect guy, mature, with good control of his pitches. I noticed it was him and Edwards that got the early start in scrimmages as for the freshmen pitchers. I saw him as maybe having the highest floor of all the freshmen pitchers. I was not shocked at seeing him playing some 1B but I'm shocked to see him at 3B. I'm also surprised to hear they are not satisfied with what they have. I heard Thompson struggled at 3B but I would think Arnold or Safford are more than capable. Is his bat that good that they are just looking at options?

If I remember correctly, Hellmers was a 3B starter his SO year. Then moved to 1B as a JR when Collin Loupe, UNO signee, showed out at 3B.

Hellmers moves really well for a big guy. I tagged him to take over 1B, but maybe it’ll be 3B. Either way I think he becomes an every day player in a few weeks.

It's got natural rise to it.

Our school faced Edwards a lot in baseball and basketball, he’s a gamer. He was always a very quiet leader that would put the team on his back and make it look easy. He has the frame they can fill so the potential is definitely there.
