Yea it’s odd. You’d think Orgeron would have something to say about a presumptive starter at safety choosing to transfer out.

Well, he also went 0-9 with 4 Ks in scrimmages prior to this season. I'm not saying he sucks or anything, but Hampton wasn't exactly breaking the trend of this team striking out a lot is all I'm saying.

If PM was taken off guard, I bet O was too.

Or at least that’s how it was a few falls ago when I’d watch. If he was getting mowed down by Hill and Marceaux, it’s not exactly something to be ashamed of with it being your first live pitching in 9 months.

Nepotism. Anyone who thinks Bianco is an sec baseball player doesn’t know baseball. Old Paul did his dad a favor. Imagine running a 6.5 60 and seeing Bianco in center with a pop gun arm and hitting 100 playing and you get a couple of at bats and rarely play. Coach is asked about it and the response is you were not here in the fall and others (Bianco) are ahead of you. Response by old Paul defied logic and common sense. Bianco athletically should not even be on the team.

Just checked Scuba’s threads.
He was 0-3 with a K vs Edwards/Millas/Beck
0-3 with a K vs Marceaux/Hilliard/George/Fontenot
0-3 with 2Ks and a BB vs Edwards/Beck/Hilliard/Vietmeier
ETA: For reference and added context: Travinski was also 0fer during those scrimmages playing on the same team as Hampton. He also has 4 Ks in 7 ABs.

I don't know why people keep bringing up Bianco as it relates to Hampton not playing. It's not like he's started in CF. He moved over from SS to CF during the game after Gio got hurt and then for a handful of collective innings late in other games. He hasn't started a single game there. Drost and Sanford have been the guys starting, mainly Drost with 9 starts in centerfield. Drost has shown a lot more at the plate in his first few weeks as a freshman than Hampton ever has. Sanford has been "ok." If you want to talk about Bianco starting 7 games at SS, have at it. But Bianco isn't the one taking Hampton ABs. Other underclassmen are. Hampton is more a victim of a very loaded outfield with nowhere to put him right now, and when Gio returns there is no rational argument to bench someone to play Hampton. I hate it for him, but it's simply reality. I think that's what Mainieri was trying to get through to him but he and his parents didn't want to hear it

Travinski also only has 1 start this season and limited ABs

9 appearances. 1 start. 15 PAs
Hampton has 5 appearances. No starts. And 6 PAs.
Travinski has gotten a look and there are lots of people here wanting him to get more.

People want to see him get more ABs because of his power potential, but he's kind of in a similar situation as Hampton. Do you bench Beloso and start him at DH or do you bench Milazzo and give up great defense for another bat? He can't play anywhere else. But he does show a lot more potential from what I've personally seen than what I've seen from Hampton, including last season.

He got PT in CF vs Air Force after Gio then as a sub vs LaTech and ULL and Youngstown. He wasn’t moved back to SS till Nicholls.
ETA: and he also got PT vs TS and UNO in CF. That’s half of his appearances.

Air Force after Gio
Bianco was already in the game. He moved to CF and Arnold moved to SS, replacing Gio in the lineup.

Hampton pinch ran for Travinski in that game, then got pulled after he made a baserunning mistake. Bianco came in as a pinch runner later on in that game and then played the rest of the game in CF

and ULL
Hampton also played in that game. Both he and Bianco actually came in at the same time...in the 9th inning.

Youngstown
Bianco pinch hit for Dugas in the 8th inning when we were losing 22-7 and played one inning in CF.
Bianco has played a handful of innings in the outfield this year. My point being, he isn't the guy taking reps away from Hampton.

I was typing up another eta to say that Hampton was getting in some of those games too. However, Bianco got into CF vs TS and UNO and Mo didn’t see any PT. I wonder if that was the camel that broke the straw

I don't know if you did this on purpose, but I legit lol'd at it.

Upfront? Nepotism Paul was being himself. Bianco in center over Hampton. Mmmmmmk.
My guess would be that PM hoped Bianco would continue to produce. When he is on he is hitting with a lot of power. If PM stopped playing him too soon then he ran the risk of not seeing if Bianco would settle in at the plate like Dugas has. Bianco has been removed from the lineup now but he was only in it for his homerun potential anyway.
quote:
Less we forget Hal Hughes with the baseball dad who is friends with Old Paul. No lefties, but Moffitt on the 35 man roster.
Hal Hughes was the option because we lost shortstop recruits to the draft and had injuries. Hal Hughes was benched for Cranford who was a freshman. He would have been benched for Arnold had Arnold not been recovering from surgery. It’s not like PM was happy with having to play Hughes as much as he did.
quote:
Imagine being the athlete Hampton is and seeing Bianco getting reps ahead of you. Can’t blame the kid one bit.
There’s more to baseball than being an athlete. Welcome to big time college ball I guess. He would have gotten more opportunities than Bianco in the outfield as he progressed and gained confidence. Patience is hard for many people.

It's going to be funny seeing some of the guys he's playing with selling insurance or selling cars & he's in arbitration & PM dead & buried. This thread is pathetic. PM ran that kid off for whatever reason
