LSU's defense would've stonewalled USC had they played them that year. Probably would've reduced the stock of guys like Reggie Bush in the draft by the time he got drafted too because they'd see his struggles not being able to run through holes you can drive a car through. USC would not have been able to move LSU's DL I can guarantee that. They had some brick walls on that line that year.

RIP Hill.

It’s pretty pathetic that we still have a bunch of 40 and 50 year old grown-arse men in our fanbase in denial about the 2003 co-national championship. It’s been 21 years, and it’s time to stop being salty and get over it.

Solid melt. Extra points for sincerity and stupidity. 8.5/10.

LSU won the championship on the field. USC was “awarded” theirs.

Who’s salty?

This is a better argument (although winning the BCS championship is, by definition, official).

You and I have different definitions of official. What authority did the BCS have to prevent the AP from naming their own champion? What authority did they have to prevent USC from accepting that award? Most importantly, what authority or unique legitimacy did they have to prevent the general public from accepting the legitimacy of the AP title? Absent a true official sanctioning body determining a champion, the legitimacy of a claim is entirely dependent on public acceptance. Like it or not, the general public accepts USC’s claim as valid.

But USC does not have a substantive case as to why they deserve a share of that year’s title. Best wins, better loss, strength of schedule, common opponents, etc. Every single metric favors LSU.

None of my arguments should be construed as a sign I believe USC should have been ranked ahead of LSU or as a validation of the poll system. It’s more a recognition that the BCS system was still materially flawed and did not prevent a disagreement in public perception as to who the rightful champions were. It’s an acceptance of the fact that most people consider both USC and LSU as legitimate champions no matter how much I may feel LSU was more deserving.

Since ……. you keep screaming about who “got the trophy”

Maybe everyone who fielded a team in 2003 should get a National Championship Participation Trophy. I mean, we wouldn’t want anybody to have hurt feelings about not getting a trophy, right?

Would that make you feel better? Good, now lay down, be quiet, and drink your baba.

the AP not going along with a agreement to award the AP trophy to the BCS champion

There was never any such agreement. The AP had USC ahead of LSU from October 12 on. They didn’t make a sudden change in postseason.

These two P****** were in a thread the other day raising all kinds of hell because people were correctly stating that the BCS Championship is the official National Championship, as agreed upon by all colleges prior to the BCS era. It is simple as that. Most likely fans of another school and it is showing. I have never seen LSU fans fight so hard to discredit LSU, which won the Legitimate Title. This 71 doesn't understand that the AP was 1/3 of the formula to decide the national championship game, as was the Coaches poll, and the final 1/3 was the BCS formula itself which used strength of schedule. It is mind blowing these two P****** in here arguing so hard against LSU.

these two are most definitely liberals...but they will be in here saying that they aren't. This is a totally weird flex.

Can someone please explain to me the point dude is trying to make here because I'm not understanding.......Is he saying that because we weren't the AP's pick even though we won the BCS game therefore we aren't the National Champions? I feel like we actually earned the honor on the field versus being crowned by spots writers but again I'm unclear on his point

His point is that he finds it ridiculous that a bunch of grown men are getting their panties in a wad about what the AP poll did it did not do and whether or not people accept USC as champions in 2003 along with LSU, not instead of LSU. LSU won the BCS national championship. What the AP did doesn’t diminish that in any way.

LOL. LSU won the National Title the way the NCAA defined it.

USC had the ‘largely LA based’ sportswriters vote. It was a joke and still is.

Link? I’m sorry that you are so fragile that you can’t contemplate the thought someone having a different idea about something than you do and get so worked up about the AP and USC as if it diminishes what LSU accomplished in any way. LSU won the national championship. Who cares if people give credit to USC for the AP poll title as well? The revisionist history because some of you can’t handle that thought and the rage it envokes is humorous.

The AP title is as recognized as UCF’s imaginary title a few years ago
