Shouldn’t have been picked up, terrible holding call too. Also thought Jenkins had that TD.

Just think it was a bad crew. Doubt the conference is against us. They wouldn’t sabotage their looming conference title game from having a little extra shine as a potential play in game

Bama is back in the playoff hunt now.

That is all the conference really cares about.

Does anyone know why the flag was picked up?

The ref next to the play (in front of the receiver) did not throw a flag. The flag came from behind the play. My guess is the closest ref told the head guy that the defender went for the ball and it wasn't interference. It was a bad call obviously, but that is my guess as to what happened.

Totally agree. 3 terrible game changing calls. The misread by JD - Emery easily picks up at least 15 and the untimely Lacy drops decided the game. LSU gets 2 of those plays in their favor and they win easily.

Just guessing but I disagree with the commentators. I don't think the refs discussed whether the defender had a right to the ball. I think the discussion was about the ball being catchable. If the offensive player had jumped and even tipped the ball, he would've got the call. But since he didn't jump, it probably was deemed too high over his head (i.e. not catchable) and the flag was picked up.

That's just my take on it.

This is a good justification for picking up the flag; however, the problem is when the ball is uncatchable there is a specific signal when they pick-up the flag. I have never seen an official (guess it could happen) rule a ball was uncatchable without stating that and waiving their hands over their head.

in college station you can climb on the back of the receiver as long as you are "going for the ball"

that picked up flag changed the whole game momentum.

This. Anytime a flag is picked up it is supposed to be explained over the microphone in order to avoid this exact thing. The ref did not give the hand signal and wave over his head, and no audible explanation was given for why the flag was picked up. Protocols were not followed and Birmingham needs to step in and explain why the flag was picked up. I’m more of a fan of incompetence versus conspiracy, but it’s not a huge stretch to see some things that happen in the SEC as conspiratorial.

I can understand the football move but te defender did not ever touch the ball. The pass is thrown by the QB to his receiver. In the very least a defender must at least touch the ball when trying to make a football move.

Yes, the refs said he defender was going for the ball, right up the receivers back. Bullshite call.
