I was a staunch defender of Pap being behind the plate last year, but he's actually gotten worse at the plate. He's struggling defensively now as well.

If CPM really is using the midweek games as trial and error for the young guys it's time for Coomes to get some starts.

There is no question Pap has struggled both at the plate (no huge surprise) and on defense (a much bigger surprise). But this absurdity that Romero is in his zip code defensively is ridiculous (even if he were healthy). Romero is a complete liability defensively at catcher. But I see no reason why Coomes should not be given increased playing time. What I've seen from him has been promising, and Pap has not played well enough to keep him from getting some starts behind the plate.

You hit the nail on the head...Romero's shoulder is all torn up, and needs surgery! He opted against surgery to be a part of this years team instead of redshirting

Please stop bringing helpful facts to baseball threads.

Baseball posters enjoy criticizing baseball coaches and facts just annoy them. Thanks.

Who said that? I said the starter is not playing up to his standards; the backup has played well. Therefore, the backup should get to play more. Its not overly complicated.
