Kickoffs, punting and field goal kicking stats have been unprecedented..the true indicator is not one complaint on the Rant after last week's loss!!

That all includes punt returns; which decision making was questionable at best twice last game.

It hasn't been quietly. It's been well noted. Problem is, there's a lot of negatives that overshadow how well that unit has been playing.

Also, the return game has been issue, so not ALL special teams. But the kicking game has been excellent.

EDIT: Credit Greg McMahon for that. He's done a great job.

Imagine that, a kicker that can kick it out the end zone is a good weapon.

Kicking it through the end zones on kickoffs has been one of the best things of the season. It blows my mind why we could never do this before

Good thing too. I thought I heard yesterday morning LSU is 118 or in that range in yards allowed on kickoff returns. But we’ve only allowed 4 all season.

Cole and the punters have been awesome.

Returners are as weak as I can remember, not a reflection on the coach, Giles has been an enormous disappointment.

Yes, 118 out of 122 kick-offs returns meaning there are 3 other teams who allowed 4 or less kick returns, LSU allowed 4 return off of Kick-offs,Georgia allowed 3 returns off of Kick-off, Louisville and I think NC State allowed on 2 returns off of Kick-offs.

I meant that we are allowing 26.5 yards per return and that is something in the 118 range of most yards allowed.

Our return game has been a massive disappointment.

The rest has been pretty stellar.

I'm trying to be positive, but this staff makes decisions sometimes I just don't get.

Why the heck do we have 22 and 4 back on KR? Put a burner back there. We rarely get a return anyway. This is LSU, we don't have anyone that can burn anymore?

ETA: I will say other than the return game, our special teams has been very good this year. Even our punter seems to have improved.

Giles' first steps are too slow to be an effective punt returner and he seems WAAAY too reluctant to return punts, preferring fair catches too much.

Not just preferring them, but incorrectly making them well inside the 10 yard line. He did this twice against UF and it really fricked our field position. Was a major reason we lost IMO.

That's why I would give them a A- and not an A+

Can we really credit McMahon? The only real difference is our FG kicker is deadly accurate, and our KO specialist kicks it through the end zone nearly every time. You even said the return game has been lackluster, and McMahon has more influence over that than the accuracy and strength of our kickers legs.

Having Avery Atkins boot kickoffs through the endzone for 4 straight years is gonna be one of those small joys in life.
