I must be going insane because I'm gonna have to agree with Rae here. I have zero issue with what he said here. If he says anything else, he sounds like an insecure loser.

This is MUCH different than him saying "the plan all along was to save 2 scholarships." Yes, I realize he meant that was the backup plan, but that's not what he said.

He could have said," we had some obstacles, I made some mistakes, they are on me. We missed on some recruits , that's on me also- I take responsibility for this team and I made a promise to the fans to bring this team to championship status. That is on me and no one else."

So he should have answered the wrong question so he could make himself look bad. I don't think any coach is going to do that.

Alleva might have stepped in and given him a budget after he made that statement. Who knows?

I just like the 6-1 part of the quote leaving out ND. You know damn well if they had beat ND he'd be saying 7-1.

LSU had far better athletes than ND. They should have beat ND by 3 TDs.

LSU's average recruiting class over the last 5 years (2013-2017) is 4th best in the country. ND's is 8th.

4 spots difference in recruiting rankings does not equal 3 touchdowns. That would be almost like saying the #4 team should best the #8 team by 20 points. Not so. Not even close.

It does however put a big hole in the argument that LSU was short on talent. Some O supporters have called it a rebuild. shite, one jackass said Miles left O crumbs to work with last night.

I never said it did. But it does show that we had a talent advantage.

Yep. My mistake. I got the two quotes from the previous posts mixed up.

So, in your opinion, the difference in the 4th and 8th ranked recruiting classes over a 5 year span is that much to say LSU had far better athletes?

Some of LSU's 2013 4-stars:
Jeryl Brazil
Hayden Rettig
John Diarse
Avery Peterson
Anthony Jennings
Melvin Jones
Maquedius Bain
Andy Dodd
Rashard Robinson

Some of LSU's 2014 4-stars:
Clifton Garrett 5-star *****
Brandon Harris
Trey Quinn
Jevonte Domond
Tony Upchurch
Travonte Valentine

Some of LSU's 2015 4-stars:
Tyron Johnson 5-star *****
Maea Teuhema 5-star *****
Chidi Valentine-Okeke
Xavier Lewis
Jazz Ferguson

2016 includes Saivion Smith and Willie Allen.

What do these guys have in common?
They were 4-stars or higher. A bunch of 3's have left also.
They were not on LSU's team this year.
The reason they were not on the team was not because they had graduated.

So yeah, if they re-graded classes LSU may not look as good as they did at the time. I'm sure ND lost some also but I doubt it would be as many highly rated recruits.

Probably not. Far better is probably pushing it.

Eh, I don't think people have a problem with the what, it's just completely meaningless because he can't back it up, and he never has. Saying it is fine, but it has no meaning, and I don't think anyone has faith in O after so many comments like this.

Recruiting rankings seem to be a crapshoot sometimes which is one of the reasons I don't follow as closely as I used to.

Also, i don't understand why people had a problem with O saying he trusts his own rankings. I can't imagine any coach does it any different. If a head coach got up there and said, "yeah, we would like to thank ESPN and 24/7 for helping us choose which guys to sign" they would get laughed off the podium.
