Man, that sounds like an awesome trip! I'll go check out the site to see where you are planning to go. Definitely come back and post the updates with links, I'd like to see how the fans are in the other parts of the coutry you go to. I think the video documentation could be great.
Great story about the Florida game from 97. I remember that game as if it was yesterday, and I remember after the sign theft incident thinking that Florida had no idea what was waiting for them. Can't honestly say that I thought we would win, but I knew we were ready for them.
Best of luck on your trip, I am certain that you will be able to find fans to show you just how tailgating is done wherever you go, but I doubt you find any more hospitable and welcoming than Tiger fans!

JP.
Because this isnt a Tiger Stadium game I think poeple are kinda winging it on finding places to tailgate. There will be 50k fans there so if you get their early enough and walk around Im sure youll find a bunch of good tailgates.
Also if you say something about your CFB Journy they will probably say "your the guy from tiger droppings" and hand you a beer. Good luck on your journey.

ok, thanks!! I have gotten a few e-mails on the side and I will be featuring a couple LSU tailgates based on those e-mails... but I do want to meet-up with others "randomly" (LSU and Oregon) and feature those as well.
Looking forward to meeting a bunch of folks!

this is a good point, but it seems like there are plenty of RVs headed that way and I'm sure they will have as much of their usual tailgating set up as Dallas and Cowboys Stadium will allow. And you know that when LSU fans do it, they do it right, are proud of it, and will be willing to tell you all about it

My buddy JP (aka CFBTraveler) has some great footage from the game this weekend, and is actually working with the Oklahoma State Sports Media Dept. and Communications Dept media team (in Stillwater while getting ready for tomorrows game against Arizona) as we speak, updating his website and creating some new videos of his trips to Waco (TCU/Baylor), Dallas (LSU/Oregon), and College Park (Miami/Maryland) this past weekend.
Three games down and 27 more to go.
Check out his teaser trailer ThursdayToSaturday.com
Facebook page is available to check out as well:

Like the video and really cool idea in general, however I hate the fact that the game you are coming to for LSU is Arkansas. That is always the most down big SEC game, fan wise, on the schedule.

also is somebody funding this project (a school or network), or are you just an OTBaller living the dream of every CFB fan?

I'll see you guys in Starkville and Morgantown too.
No one is funding the project, but I have received some incredible generosity from complimentary tickets to places to crash to parking passes to dozens of tailgating invitation. And the three Oklahoma St. fellas helping me with the website and facebook and video editing are an incredible blessing!

I've posted here a few times in 2011, but I wanted to return to this thread on The Rant and give my evaluation of the LSU game-day experience. I didn't go on this 30 game trip to rank hospitality nor enthusiasm nor tailgating food nor crowd noise, etc., but its a question that comes up often amongst folks I meet.
For the 2011 College Football Season, I went from Waco to Arlington to College Park to Stillwater to Houston to Starkville to Lexington to Cincinnati to Morgantown to Pittsburgh to Madison to Eugene to Corvallis to San Francisco to San Jose to Fresno to Tucson to El Paso to Miami to Jacksonville to Boston to East Hartford to Atlanta to Clemson to Blacksburg to Raleigh to College Station to Baton Rouge.
The loudest venues of my 2011 travels were, in chronological order:
- Milan Puskar Stadium (63,500) in Morgantown [LSU at West Virginia on Sept. 24]
- Camp Randall Stadium (80,321) in Madison [Nebraska at Wisconsin on Oct. 1]
- Autzen Stadium (56,000) in Eugene [Cal at Oregon on Oct. 6]
- Memorial Stadium (81,500) in Clemson [Wake Forest at Clemson on Nov. 12]
- Kyle Field (82,600) in College Station [Texas at Texas A&M on Nov. 24]
... but really, nothing came close to the noise level at LSU's Tiger Stadium (91,600) last Friday for the Arkansas game (photo below). Particularly during the first 2-3 Arkansas drives in the 1st Quarter and also after the punt return TD inthe 2nd Quarter.
For full disclosure, I'm an LSU alumnus (and rabid fan) but I tried very hard to be fully objective on this trip. It wasn't that hard, though, my ears were ringing only once on the trip... that was last Friday in Baton Rouge!!
Note: in past years, I've been to all of the SEC stadiums, but only three on-campus SEC stadiums this season (MSU, UK, LSU). In my previous experience, the loudest stadiums are LSU, Auburn and Florida.
Another Note: the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville was uniquely loud in that, as a neutral-site game, half of the stadium was loud during almost the entire game. It was a tight game too, so it didn't get quiet for anything except time-outs and halftime. Two strong SEC crowds too, so the noise, from a consistency standpoint, was rather impressive.
Thanks for reading!!
JP
P.S. I'll complete the trip on Saturday at the University of Houston, watching Case Keenum and the 12-0 Houston Cougars host Southern Miss in the C-USA CG.

So despite the game with hogs normally being a downer as some suggested, it turned out to be one of the best I see. I sure wish I could have been there for the game, but I will be doing my best to make up for it this weekend in Atlanta. If you make it there, let us know!!

Yea, its always interesting to compare late-August opinions/projections to late-November facts!
In August, I picked Arkansas-LSU to attend and it looked like a poor choice. So was it the best choice for a home game in 2011? Y'all know better than me (NWSU, UK, UF, Auburn, WKU or Arkansas).
As for Saturday, I'll be watching the SEC CG on TV as soon as I get home from the C-USA CG at UH.

Yes. Without question. Probably the best home game of the last three seasons.
To be honest, all the other games were cupcakes or over in the first quarter. The Florida game is usually crazy, but I remember turning to my friend after the long TD pass to Randle that opened the game and both us saying "this game is over."

I was at the game, as was most of my family. My sister who sits at different part of stadium stated that it was so loud during the punt return that it was almost quiet. Kind of like a white noise, surreal moment. I agree. A new acquaintance in the south end zone looked at me after the return and stated that he had never seen someone so happy.
