I like it!!!

So despite the game with hogs normally being a downer as some suggested, it turned out to be one of the best I see. I sure wish I could have been there for the game, but I will be doing my best to make up for it this weekend in Atlanta. If you make it there, let us know!!

Yea, its always interesting to compare late-August opinions/projections to late-November facts!

In August, I picked Arkansas-LSU to attend and it looked like a poor choice. So was it the best choice for a home game in 2011? Y'all know better than me (NWSU, UK, UF, Auburn, WKU or Arkansas).

As for Saturday, I'll be watching the SEC CG on TV as soon as I get home from the C-USA CG at UH.
I've posted here a few times in 2011, but I wanted to return to this thread on The Rant and give my evaluation of the LSU game-day experience. I didn't go on this 30 game trip to rank hospitality nor enthusiasm nor tailgating food nor crowd noise, etc., but its a question that comes up often amongst folks I meet.

For the 2011 College Football Season, I went from Waco to Arlington to College Park to Stillwater to Houston to Starkville to Lexington to Cincinnati to Morgantown to Pittsburgh to Madison to Eugene to Corvallis to San Francisco to San Jose to Fresno to Tucson to El Paso to Miami to Jacksonville to Boston to East Hartford to Atlanta to Clemson to Blacksburg to Raleigh to College Station to Baton Rouge.

The loudest venues of my 2011 travels were, in chronological order:
- Milan Puskar Stadium (63,500) in Morgantown [LSU at West Virginia on Sept. 24]
- Camp Randall Stadium (80,321) in Madison [Nebraska at Wisconsin on Oct. 1]
- Autzen Stadium (56,000) in Eugene [Cal at Oregon on Oct. 6]
- Memorial Stadium (81,500) in Clemson [Wake Forest at Clemson on Nov. 12]
- Kyle Field (82,600) in College Station [Texas at Texas A&M on Nov. 24]

... but really, nothing came close to the noise level at LSU's Tiger Stadium (91,600) last Friday for the Arkansas game (photo below). Particularly during the first 2-3 Arkansas drives in the 1st Quarter and also after the punt return TD inthe 2nd Quarter.

For full disclosure, I'm an LSU alumnus (and rabid fan) but I tried very hard to be fully objective on this trip. It wasn't that hard, though, my ears were ringing only once on the trip... that was last Friday in Baton Rouge!!

Note: in past years, I've been to all of the SEC stadiums, but only three on-campus SEC stadiums this season (MSU, UK, LSU). In my previous experience, the loudest stadiums are LSU, Auburn and Florida.

Another Note: the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville was uniquely loud in that, as a neutral-site game, half of the stadium was loud during almost the entire game. It was a tight game too, so it didn't get quiet for anything except time-outs and halftime. Two strong SEC crowds too, so the noise, from a consistency standpoint, was rather impressive.

Thanks for reading!!
JP

P.S. I'll complete the trip on Saturday at the University of Houston, watching Case Keenum and the 12-0 Houston Cougars host Southern Miss in the C-USA CG.

Well said!!! And all due respect to Coach McClendon, but well said!

I might (maybe) have time to make it down to Legends in NYC after the Syracuse-UConn game...

I wish I could find a fun "LSU pub" in Hartford, CT though!! Or Bridgeport.

:geauxtigers:
Going to the noon Syracuse-UConn game so looking for an LSU pub in Hartford or Bridgeport, Connecticut.

(not quite enough time to make it down to NYC's Legends)
It was pretty insane! I was sitting a few feet from the portal where the ref/streaker was taken out of Arizona Stadium in handcuffs. I have some video of that part. Not a pretty sight.

It was such a strange play, the ref blows the play dead. But I couldn't figure out why. Then this dude is ripping off his ref uniform and running around in a bright red undies or thong (I couldn't tell... my brain was caught in a "don't look at it... I can't look away" cycle).

Streaker is tackled nicely by a sherrif (or other cop, but I think a sherrif). Treated rather roughly. But not too bad.

I have no idea how the brawl started but all benches cleared. Presumably, some player took advantage of the distraction and shoved or punched an opponent. Given the score, one could presume that a frustrated UCLA player did the first bad deed, but really, that's 100% speculation.

I'll try to get the video up soon at: ThursdayToSaturday but I've gotta hit the road for El Paso now

I'll try to get the video up eventually at: [link=(www.ThursdayToSaturday.com)]ThursdayToSaturday[/link] but I'm gonna hit the sack (long drive to El Paso tomorrow)

You should create a thread on the more sports board and update it throughout the season

WreckinRams05, thanks, I will post on the More Sports Board from now on, thanks!!

We are a bit behind on posting content, but the Oregon-LSU video is now posted at:

www.ThursdayToSaturday.com

and FaceBook, search: ThursdayTo Saturday

We'll post the following over the next few days:
- Miami at Maryland

See y'all in Starkville!!

P.S. the project is featured today in the Oklahoma State Student Paper:

P.S. #2 - as I mentioned above, here's a video I shot of LSU coming out of the tunnel at Cowboys Stadium.

Like the video and really cool idea in general, however I hate the fact that the game you are coming to for LSU is Arkansas. That is always the most down big SEC game, fan wise, on the schedule.

also is somebody funding this project (a school or network), or are you just an OTBaller living the dream of every CFB fan?

I'll see you guys in Starkville and Morgantown too.

No one is funding the project, but I have received some incredible generosity from complimentary tickets to places to crash to parking passes to dozens of tailgating invitation. And the three Oklahoma St. fellas helping me with the website and facebook and video editing are an incredible blessing!

at game in Waco

On to DFW tonight after the game!!

Having my coffee and leaving for the airport in a couple of hours. I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve and could barely sleep last night.

that's awesome!!! I feel the same way!

Off to TCU-Baylor (leaving in 22 hours) then up to DFW right after that game.
THANK YOU for your service!!! Enjoy the game!

Because this isnt a Tiger Stadium game I think poeple are kinda winging it on finding places to tailgate. There will be 50k fans there so if you get their early enough and walk around Im sure youll find a bunch of good tailgates.

Also if you say something about your CFB Journy they will probably say "your the guy from tiger droppings" and hand you a beer. Good luck on your journey.

ok, thanks!! I have gotten a few e-mails on the side and I will be featuring a couple LSU tailgates based on those e-mails... but I do want to meet-up with others "randomly" (LSU and Oregon) and feature those as well.

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of folks!

:nana:
AbitaFan08 & Rudy40, thanks for the kind words!! I am excited about the trip!

Game 1 is Friday night (TCU at Baylor in Waco)

catching up on some posts I haven't responded to yet...

Draconian Sanctions -- huh?? Are you telling my post is too long or what? Just curious.

sland36 -- thank you for the well-wishes!

USLttarP -- not sure if you are laughing at me or with me

NicoBlues -- Thanks again for the kind words!

colorchangintiger -- I appreciate the tip. Can ya help me find those guys?

Mahootney -- it shall be Arkansas-LSU... I am tied to the ESPN Thursday schedule. And best of luck for the New Orleans plans!

loweralabamatrojan -- thanks for the interest!! I'm glad to know you will be following me!

Rainman & jeepfreak -- not to beat a dead horse here but... I've seen Tiger Stadium night-games and they are phenomenal. No argument there. I've actually been to quite a few at LSU and to games in every other SEC venue, plus maybe 15 or 20 other CFB stadiums. But there are zero Tiger Stadium night games for me this year because of the "geography & logistics" of the 2011 ESPN Thursday Night slate. All Saturday games will be "reasonably close" to the prior Thursday game. Which means I will be in Starkville for LSU at MSU and I will be in Morgantown for LSU at WVU (two days after NC State at Cincy)

But for now, I'd love it if we could focus this thread a bit more on the beginning of the 2011 CFB Season (Oregon vs. LSU) and not the end of the season. That countdown above is getting awfully close to zero :banghead:

THANKS all!!!!
