Hi WacoTiger, great post! i quit posting and even reading this board last year it made me so sick. only starting again because of the early season obsession we tiger fans have. doubt if i'll hang much longer though. the reason is exactly as you say. it is very obvious to me that this board is either infiltrated with fans of other teams that don't have much of a life and pose as lsu fans for fun (pretty dull people) or lsu has a lot of fans just as sick and yes, just as ignorant; that's ignorant of football, sports, competition and probably the real world in general. there is nothing, absolutely nothing that will please this contingent and it very much appears to me that they truly do want lsu to lose. their motives in this desire are all the wrong motives and go against my feelings as an alum that loves lsu and loves lsu football.

hmmm, lsu grad in 82. How many championships did they win in that time? How many losses to Bama? Understand you are used to losing, but we expect to beat a team who has another major university in the state they are sharing recruits with that has the same population of Louisiana.

BTW... For the record...

My criticism of the coaching staff here has much less to do with winning National Championships as it does in getting LSU to play up to their potential, regardless of the outcome, which if they do play up to their potential, then there is a strong likelihood that they will at least be in the running. I don't know anyone really, especially myself, who thinks LSU should win the NC every year, or even ever three or five, or even ten years. What I want to see is coaching kids not to shoot themselves in the foot, play the entire game with a sense of urgency and laying it out there like every down depends upon it, and improvement from the top down.

That's what makes people upset IMO, rational people that is.

It's funny that I saw a PosiTiger actually post this as something positive. Is that something to be proud of?

I have two sons in college and if my sons played football at LSU, there is no way that I would be reading any of these bulletin boards for the hateful, spiteful things that some of our so-called “fans” write when a player or coach makes a mistake. If my sons were good enough to play college football, there is no coach I would rather them play for than Coach Miles. I also think Coach Saban is a good football coach and he has been successful, but I would not want my sons playing for him. I like Coach Saban as a coach, but I don’t respect him as a person. I don’t know Coach Miles very well, but I respect him as a person and as a coach

this is fricking idiotic FWIW.

Here's one point of agreement. Another is
quote:

I get madder reading this board than anything else.
But for different reasons. One of those reasons is the name-calling and divisive nature of the various ones here who seem to need to label every dissenting thought or concern (and also the person expressing it) with a hateful epithet. Posi- and Nega- Tigers do this to each other constantly. I've done it. But at its beginning, I believe this habit has fed toxic negativity into the whole Rant community (if community is a word that even applies anymore). And in conjunction with this, one of those reasons is the massive efforts made by some to stifle any serious discussion of both the positives and the areas some view with concern in our coaching or play-calling.

Why all this conflict? I'm not sure - but I have some ideas.
1. The various stages of maturity of various ranters along these threads - social, emotional, mental, and age-related maturity are all in this mix together. Volatile, yes?
2. Expectations - some realistic, some ridiculous but all dearly held by those having them. When challenged on the rant, or when they are not met, explosions happen.
3. Hype - Hype surrounding individuals, staff, recruiting classes, rankings, results is often widely believed. Part of the fun of college football for many, it drums up the expectations in and post season, sometimes to a frenzy.
4. Anxiety almost always accompanies hype, and gallops away in the form of full-bore frustration when the hype proves to be more than reality can bear. One example is when the widely cherished notion that we have more talent at LSU than anyone, and our recruiting classes prove this is so, meets up with the reality that these highly talented players don't always live up to the hype. We need someone to blame for that, and that is almost always the coaching staff. Ugly but true.
5. Outcome: Polarization. Thus we arrive at the condition of the Rant today. It's the one place for everybody's perfect storm to break out, without committing actual mayhem or bodily harm. In short it may be a necessary evil, an outlet for peoples' deepest frustrations.

I think we need to agree that for the most part we are all LSU fans here, caught up in the ups and downs of our own emotions, expectations, and team fortune. So let's cut ourselves, our team and coaches, and our fellow ranters some badly needed slack.

right, but this is where LSU fans go to critique and criticize the problems of the team. When there's a crappy product on the field its the right of every fan to offer their opinion and discuss the problems just as much as it is to praise the good when things are going well. We've had two years of crappy football and if the UNC game is any indication, we are headed towards shitty performance three.

Very nice post Mr. Palmer.

There are some fans who have are deciding whether or not to find another board due the extreme amount of negativity on this board.

It is sad when you beat a higher ranked opponent on a neutral field and some fans go as berserk as this board was Saturday night and Sunday Morning.

Most didn't even recognize that we started as many new players as UNC and we probably played more Freshmen than UNC during the course of the game.

Les Miles Weekly New Conference
quote:

The good news is improvement has been made. I like the position we are in and I like the fact that we had to take a team on the road to the Georgia Dome, and got to practice a young team in a road schedule. There were eight first time starters,18 first time players and 9 true freshmen that played in that game. The good news is certainly that a young team is prepared to now go on the road again in a more important contest because it is a conference game.

Anyone know of an internet forum for any major college team that is what WacoTiger is wishing for? I mean one that is not moderated beyond recognition? Hell, it's hard to find high school fans these days who are in it for the fun.

You are exactly correct.

Most of the negativity comes from people who distort facts and use hyperbole. They take criticism far beyond what is reasonable, then hatefully spew this drivel over and over.

He wishes people were more civil. So do I. But that ain't happening, because apparently some people are proud to be as unreasonable and agressive as possible.

People can disagree and have good conversation and debate without being assholes.

Really, I wish people could look at a game liike that and see both the positives and the negatives, instead of arguing its all positive or all negative. That crap irritates me to no end. Be honest in your arguments.

Miles isn't getting paid ridiculous amounts of money go to out there and lose. He needs to be held accountable.

Fortunately, we didn't lose this week.

So what then would be the topics on an all positive board? I can promise you it would be very boring and wouldn't have 1/10th the readers that this board has.

In case you haven't noticed what it is you click on to get here it it called the "Tiger Rant" not "Tiger Kumbaya"

You are not an elite fan. You are an entitled, self-righteous brat.

Being an elite fan is, by definition, someone who enthusiastically SUPPORTS their team. You have disqualified yourself.

An entitled brat is, by definition, someone who whines and complains and THINKS THEY DESERVE something when they've typically done nothing to earn anything.

Good post and I can apreciate your passion. I personally do not hate Miles, it is simply frustrating to watch others continue to drink the Cool Aid. I whole heartily agree that the players should be off limits, but those who are in a position to do something about the coaching staff need to know that what they saw in person or on TV was not an abberition. The Rant is a place to go for that reinforcement.

Very reasonable.

I tend to go after some negative posters, but only if they are spewing over the top irrational rants. If someone frames an intelligent argument on something that was subpar, can improve, etc., I often find it interesting.

Rational criticism is fine. Blind hatred that spews (fill in the blank) is the worst (fill in the blank), is stupid, etc. gets annoying quickly.

We all see things that can improve. And it's usually entertaining to come on here an disucss them.
