The Opelousas city council voted Tuesday to rename Jefferson Street for Opelousas native and former LSU and current Saints' wide receiver Devery Henderson.

The street is 17 blocks long.

After his second season I was worried he'd get cut or traded due to all his drops. He's improved greatly. Helps to be in that system but he's so much better now than as a rookie or second year guy.

They are going to bring in Jim Hawthorne to MC when they unveil the new street name.

Devery is the most improved WR on the Saints roster. Congrats to Devery!

In Opelousas, 17 blocks is about 200 yards.

Personally, I think naming streets ought to go to someone who is deceased. Devery is a great kid, but I think rushing to name a street after him is not such a good idea. Look at Billy Cannon. It wasn't but a few years ago that he totally embarassed himself, his family and LSU nation. I'm not saying something like that would happen to Devery, but that is why you wait and name streets, buildings, etc after a lifetime of achievement, not just for a good season.

He is a very good kid that comes from a good mother and aunts and uncles. I have had the family's business for years and they are truly genuine people. I am very glad to see this. Go Boo Boo

Or they could have stopped the pavement after the tracks and went with dirt the rest of the way. Say the first half was for his baseball days and the second part is for his AD days...
