One lesson TM7 seemed to have learned better than anyone else.

Coaches are constantly reminding defensive players to always be around the ball. This is a lesson that didn't seem to be lost on Mathieu, and it had a lot to do with why he was such an opportunistic player. If that is his only legacy to his former teammates, it will be a very valuable one.

LET IT GO please. If you stated that about Mo Claiborne, then I get it. He served his time, switched positions, etc. Was the best DB in the nation last season.

Mathieu is a disgrace to himself and his family and is paying for it now.

If he hasn't already said it, he will before all of this is over or he will end up in a worse place.
My point is simple. Celebrate those players that have represented LSU in a positive way. Those that overcame obstacles and persevered with class, dignity and little controversy. We have plenty of those current and past. Alfred Blue, Mo, etc.

I am not angry with TM. I am angry with our fans not leaving him alone. He has enough to deal with.
I have been where his family is right now. It is troubling and the more they read about him the more they will want to hide. The pressure is intense and is not their fault.
When someone you love does that the family suffers and LSU Football is of the least of concerns.

LSU is and always be about above individual players.

IT IS THE YOUR fault for referencing him in the thread instead of other players including MO Claiborne who was a superior DB last year. NEVER a liability on D.
Nest time READ ALL of the posts I posed including one NOT directed towards you which accused me of kicking him when he is down which was NOT my point.
LEAVE HIM ALONE and LET HIM HEAL!

Good point, I think, although the Rant loses its mind over it because it's another Honey Badger thread.

Following his lead in how to be a ball hawk does not endorse the things that led to his downfall. Our culture tends to have a hard time separating the two (as the old Charles Barkley "I'm not a role model" position discussed).

As a cautionary tale, the Mathieu story is useful for young players. But you can still learn something by looking at HOW he played (and will play again, I add hopefully).

I believe his ball skills are just pure natural. Certainly he has listened and learned, but I would say he has naturally learned his craft by watching and doing, more so than purely being coached.

He's a kid you moron. Much as we like to put these kids on a pedestal, he's still just a kid. He screwed up and I think by this time he's already figured that out. I'm glad he's getting help and I hope for his sake he'll get an opportunity to make amends for his mistakes.

harsh...even for rant standards. the kid dropped the ball...the kid is paying for it...the kid is taking the right steps to address the problem.

your personal problem, the one that you so eloquently expressed...is not fixable. being a self-righteous a-hole is something you were born with and something that you seemingly embrace. your bad.

geaux TM7.

I would suggest that I hope some other DBs, Eugene and others, have watched and will now do, that's the point. It's not about what they are getting from Corey Raymond or got from Ron Cooper. It's about them sort of absorbing being around Mathieu.

It might not be worth it to constantly try to strip ball carriers at the expense of a solid tackle (not that Mathieu did that) but things like ALWAYS running hard to the football and being around piles most players in your position won't bother to come around and ALWAYS being aware of where the ball is being held by the ball-carrier (thus being more aware of opportunities to take it away) are things some guys may have picked up on.

I don't know if any one player can be the ball hawk Tyrann is, but hopefully, some habits have been picked up along the way.

kids like TM7 come along once every 5yrs if you're lucky. instinct...desire...discipline (on field)...a fearless nature (a two edged sword) combined with fleet feet, extreme talent and most importantly....the want to stand out and perform are what makes kid's like TM7 a coaches wet-dream.

quite true....losing him, Mo and especially Brooks has left a hole that seemingly will be impossible to fill. our kids need to grow up and grow up fast. there is little room for error.

geaux kids.
