For what purpose would scouts inflate their own evaluative metrics?

ETA: not trying to be a prick just genuinely wondering what the motivation would be

That just seems counterintuitive.

Marceaux might be a 3rd game arm for Vandy this year. Cmon

Well this is a piss poor argument. Just about every ace on every other college baseball team in the country would be the #3 starter at Vandy.

Maybe so. I had seen a game a month or so ago and they were saying he only threw 88-89 in high school and really developed as a freshman at Vandy.

Why do you think it's the scouts and not TV?

Scouts are using their own gun. They're not relying on the stadium gun.

I always assumed that was ESPN gunning the speed so they could, plausibly, juice it for good TV.

Scouts bring their own guns.

He made his big jump his senior year. But he was the age of a college freshman when it happened.

He means the readings used on TV. Whether they’re hot or not I don’t know.

You’re assuming I’m basing my comment off television

They were projected 1-2 going into the season. Now one may go top 5 and one top 10. DEVELOPMENT!

You responded to a guy whose comment was about the TV gun.

What the frick do you expect me to assume?

Yes I’d agree that TV may in fact do that. I was not basing my comment on espns radar gun.

I guess to play devil’s advocate to that comment, does anyone know if any of our games on espn or sec network used radar guns and if so, did the readings support that assertion?

If not, why would that be exclusive to the cws?

You can almost bet the scouts gun doesn’t show what the TV gun says or the announcers say. It’s to promote the sport.

I also hope people on here realize the radar guns at the SEC tournament and the CWS are juiced.

That was his quote

I didn’t read it as it only meant the tv readings. No need to get hostile friend

Then you're an idiot.

This whole conversation is based on the MPH readings people are seeing on TV, which are fed from the stadium radar guns.

If you can't figure out that context, maybe don't participate in the conversation.

I just went and checked not because I didn't believe catfish but bc of what the announcers said on a broadcast earlier this year. I was shocked when they said it bc I thought why would Vandy recruit a RHP throwing high 80's lol

It really depends on the stadium and TV. It’s not uncommon in Hoover to see a bunch of guys at 98-100. Marceaux hit 96/97. And we all know that wasn’t the case in the regular season
