On this date 50 years ago Maravich set the SEC scoring mark with 69 points vs Alabama

unfortunately LSU lost the game, 106-104 to an awful Tide team.Alabama was 5-12 and this was their only sellout that year at their then new Memorial Coliseum.

I think most are well-versed in how Maravich accomplished his scoring in three years, no shot clock and no 3-pt line. But an additional thing he never received enough praise for was how much money he added to the SEC and league members for attendance and concessions.

At that time only Kentucky,Vanderbilt and Tennessee fully promoted and supported the basketball. But when Pete and Tigers rolled into anywhere Athens,Gainesville, Oxford,etc those schools provided SRO seating for usually their only sell out.
