Leonard Fournette was a great Tiger, and it should be noted that he never "opted out" of a game. Too many on this board always throw out that he "started the opt out trend", and that's simply not true.

Before the bowl game against Louisville, Orgeron made the (correct) decision to not have his injured running back who was about to be a top 5 pick play in a bowl game.
quote:

"To be honest, it really wasn't my decision," Fournette told NFL Now Live. "My coach brought me into the office. He told me 'You have a lot on the line.' He didn't want me to play. I cried like a baby. It was hard for me. That was my first time not really traveling with the team and I couldn't play in a game with my brothers. I'm going to miss them."

Later in the interview, Fournette reiterated the point, saying "my coach made (the decision) for me."

Do people here actually think he wasn’t committed to the team and LSU?

I'm not a fan of opting out of bowl games, but no matter whose decision it was I'm glad he choose LSU. Tiger legend

Obviously he was hurt on and off all season. I went to that bowl game and sort of wondered why he didn’t go to the game though. Thought he could of a least stood on the sidelines and gave the high five to all his teammates as they ran off the field for clowning Lamar Jackson and Louisville.

Jamal made a joke at Fournette's expense in 2020.... This article came out in 2017 just a month after the bowl game.

He was legitimately injured. Remember him limping out there and missing the blitz pickup at the end of the Auburn game?

I'll call BS on that. No way a coach wouldn't want his best player playing in a game. Telling him not to return next year, sure. But not holding him out of his last game.

I used to be against the opt out of bowls, but the more I think about it, what would I do if I had millions of dollars at stake with an injury. Especially growing up without much of anything.

You are so wrong about this dude. If coach knows a player is going pro after the bowl game and he’s banged up, playing him in a meaningless game is idiotic and selfish. The game means nothing. The player’s future is huge to him and generations of family. Some of y’all are clueless.

Can y'all just imagine the damage RB Leonard Fournette would've done with QB Joe Burrow in the same backfield as him.
