a lot of the players have "been there". They have 2 players that went to the 10/11 Championship game, 7 players that went to the 11/12 championship game, and 9 players that went to the 2nd round last year. (They were ranked # 6 nationally last year).
Good point Brit. They have alot of players still around that have achieved a great deal of success.
They expect to win every time they hit the court. I don't know that we have that yet.
I do think we may have the talent edge, but we've got to get over that hump and put a complete game together.
Gotta get this one. Geaux Tigers.

Taking care of the ball has to be the #1 thing for a victory. It totally ran LSU out of the Memphis game.

He wasn't a 5* for nothing.

Butler scares the crap out of me because they are a team that is more than capable of going in dry when they decide to turn it on.

Quarterman or morgan or someone will have to step up defensively and guard dunham

Agree. It may even take some well-timed traps to curb Dunham's offense. I expect Butler to play disciplined on both sides of the ball. The question is whether LSU can do the same.

Not all five stars play like that though. And our kid who is a junior and if I'm not mistaken was rated a five by a service or two played more like a freshman.
That was my point to Brit.
But, no use crying over spilled milk. We blew a big opportunity, but we have another today, and our last one for a while to post a meaningful win.
Let's take it.

Good point 32. We have not played particularly disciplined ball this year. The turnovers and settling for early jumpers maybe just a bit too much.
I realize there's this transition time in getting all the new pieces learning to play together and when to play who, but there comes a time after two months of practice, a couple of pre-season practices and 6 games where you need to start to see that take shape and not be an excuse anymore.
Let's start today, cause this games huge.

We need to do whatever St Louis U did last year, because they beat Butler twice in conference play.

I bet they took care of the ball and were smart in shot selection. I think if we do those two things we win.
Cause we should control the boards, and with that and the other two victory should follow. Easier said than done though.

I agree. The time is now. Hopefully yesterday's "rest day" and team time at Disney ( they can gel even more off the court?) will help us.
Of course, Butler doesn't need to gel, they're there already. Especially from what I saw on Thurs and Fri.
Crowd may not be quite as much of a factor. Memphis has a huge following here. Loud, throw confetti at certain times, sing some kind of team song spontaneously in time outs. Very intimidating to our team on Friday.
Butler has a lot of fans here too, but less than Memphis and Purdue.

Now -3.5.
I think it'll be 4.5 by tip.

this would be a good game to have martin make an impact. maybe get some minutes at the 4 because you know there will be lots of whistles, hope to keep mickey and johnny on the floor as much as possible.
Martin has got to become more aggressive (but smart) off the dribble. He's of very little value to this team just hanging around the perimeter attempting 3's. It might be a good idea to see more of Coleman against Butler than Martin because of Coleman's experience and savvy. Butler frustrates the hell out of good teams and players, and I think they would love to match up against a talented, but very inexperienced guy like Martin who still has a ways to go in adjusting to the college game

I'm just not sure at this point if he's got the game off the dribble. His attempts to this point have been pretty ugly.
and I agree Alt, while he had some success hitting some jumpers vs. ST. Joe, I don't think his best contribution to this team will be floating around the perimiter shooting jump shots.

I like this idea too Alt. Butler will likely be disciplined and smart. I like the idea of having a more experienced presence against them.
We've seen enough raggedness offensively this year. Can't afford that today.

I still like Martin in the game over Coleman against Butler. It might help to run some stuff for Martin though. He never got into the flow of the offense in the second half against Memphis.
I'd be very concerned about this game if we weren't a good rebounding team. I think we'll definitely hang tough with Butler this afternoon. I expect our length to give Butler problems in the post, but we have to contain Dunham & limit easy baskets.

We have been able to overcome some our our uneven play because of our size and strenght on the boards. And that may well prove true again today. But I'd sure like to see us clean up some of the slopiness on the offensive end.

To me Martin is not quite as polished or instinctive as Mickey at this point. So I'd be cautious about asking him to do more than he's ready for too early. HIs cieling is high but I'd prefer baby steps at this point.
