Actually that is National Airlines. They were headquarted here in Miami and bought out by Pan Am in 1980. Gotta agree that's an odd sig pic.

That is correct. The 727-235 pictured is Registration number N4737, and became a PanAm aircraft in the merger. This same aircraft (not one "just like it" or "the same type" but this very aircraft) was the one which crashed in New Orleans on July 9, 1982. LINK
Several years before, while it was still a National Airlines plane, I made a safe and uneventful flight on this same aircraft. It reminds me, whenever things aren't going well, how fortunate I am just to be alive.
