My husband and I are taking my brother and sister. Even when they lived in BR, they had never gone to an LSU game.

The one off Van Buren? I mean...I wouldn't walk around there(esp Van Buren...that used to be the road that was known where prostitutes hung out on years ago).
But I would imagine you get a lot of business travelers that frequent those hotels since it is so close to the airport there so I would imagine it would be ok. Just don't leave valuables in your rental car, etc.
ETA: Plus is you are not that far away from Tempe and Old Town Scottsdale. Could easily Uber/Lyft to/from bars around there.

Flying in Sunday and leaving on Wednesday. Anyone have any idea how much UBER will run me from the airport to Scottsdale and then back and forth from Scottsdale to Glendale for the game? Trying to decide if I should UBER or just rent a car?

From where I live in Scottsdale (Near 101 and Indian School) it is about $15-20 for Uber from airport. North Scottsdale will be maybe double that.
Scottsdale to Glendale Uber.....$30-40 on a normal day. Surge pricing for an event....double that number easily.

The wife and I are staying in Vegas on Dec 31, getting up early gameday and making the 4-hr drive to Glendale in time for the kick-off. LSU 28, UCF 21.

I live in the center of Old Town Scottsdale. My building is in the middle of the Hyatt, Hilton and Marriot hotels and less than 1000 feet from the official LSU bar Old Town Gringos. Who wants to party????
