If Jefferson is ineffective next week, and maybe the week after that too, you don't think Les will opt for Lee at some point, even if we lose one of those two games because of poor QB play?

Why should we have to lose a game or two before we replace Jefferson?

Last year we couldn't protect the QB and this year it looks improved.

Last year we couldn't run the ball and that looks like a strong point.

If you have no passing threat down the field, you can bet defenses will make running the football significantly harder....

BTW, you would have to be insane to think JJ's deep threat ability will increase with that stacked box, or a faster and more skilled secondary (i.e. Bama and Florida). As a result, all phases of the offense will suffer from a lack of passing....

1. There were a couple of drop passes thy would have extended drives.

Were they wll thrown balls, or did the receiver happen to "touch" the ball by making an athletic play....a BIG difference.

2. There were a couple of routes not ran to the sticks that should have resulted in first downs if ran correctly.

So, instead of the receiver who ran further, JJ chose the one who didn't run to the sticks and ran an incorrect route? He still has the CHOICE to throw that receiver the ball. Most qb's have an underneath outlet...I remember receivers who DID go past teh sticks too.

quote:

3. The play calling shifted away from Jefferson so he didn't even have a bunch of looks. He had a 70% completion percentage. He had 4 completions over 10 yards and one pass that was dropped.

Again, with 70% completion, how many were for greater than 5 yards? How many were in a location to give the receiver a decent attempt to make a play AFTER catching the ball? Oh, BTW all qb's have receivers drop passes (and it's not always the receivers fault).

I am not trying to take up for Jefferson completely, but the guy did most of the right things when he was called upon in the UNC game. I would only think a hater would disagree.

Nah, only a kool-aid drinker would think his performance was excellent. It was against a second string secondary, with PLENTY of time from the o-line. He did not do well.

Do you not understand the concept that the team is better overall?

We won 9 games last year and the team overall looks much better.

when Jefferson and Miles and Crowton start getting booed at home for poor performance.

At somepoint Les's hands will be forced.

They do, but the quarterback does not. That is our weak point. Opposing teams will EXPLOIT your weak points. Watching game film, it isn't hard to figure out. They don't care if you call them negatigers...they will just exploit your weak point to victory.

Further, do you not understand that a weak qb will hamstring THE GOOD THINGS THAT HAVE IMPROVED? Both by requiring them to shoulder more of the load, and allowing teams to focus their preparation on only those facets of the game.

Finally, this is a thread about qb's...talking about the difficulties of JJ as our starting QB doesn't seem out of line.

One hit the player right in both hands. The other hit the player in the numbers.

It's not the QB responsibility to check the sticks before he throws it to a WR. He goes through progressions and hits the open guy.

If you are suppose to be an elite WR (which everyone says we have) then if it hits you in the hands or the numbers it goes on the WR.

If you go back and look at the drives they were ended mostly because of others in the game. He definitely had a few faults of his own, but it was solid. He hit WRs at every level and you could obviously see him going through progressions.

Now the Vandy game.
He was hot garbage.

Yes, it is. JJ overlooks a lot of open people to throw short of the sticks.

Its the area he needs to improve in the most. I see nothing wrong with sitting JJ a series or two a game and letting him observe.

He doesn't go through his progressions effectively. You are one of the few humans on this planet who think so.

If he shows up in the first half and underachieves in Tiger Stadium.

It will get ugly early I believe. People are just not going to tolerate much of that.

As well it should that is the only way that Miles will change things to try to make it better...although I firmly believe what Moscona said no way Miles puts in Lee for anything meaningful, especially a start, unless JJ gets hurt.

I really believe he will be pulled after the first two series if he isn't effective.

That would be the absolute most surprising thing that I have ever seen Coach Lester Miles do while coaching at LSU.
