Can anyone remember an instance where a starting quarterback was yanked after winning games because he was playing poorly?
Houston Nutt- Mustain was 8-0 when replaced with Dick. But he wasn't playing poorly. . .he was actually doing really well.

Steve Spurrier- About a thousand times at UF.

How do you know that Lee isn't looking worse than a sickly JJ in practice?

I don't. I'm saying that I do not believe it would matter.

Before you ask, the answer is, I base this on my opinion given what info we do have regarding practice.

So no, i can't prove it in court. Alas, this board aint court.

All practice reports say that JJ has looked better than Lee in practice since the fall training camp started.

Unless you are getting different info than I am getting.

Nutt and Spurrier are high strung coaches. Most coaches would and have never done it. IMO a lot more than bad reads and passes has to happen before JJ gets yanked. I guess the quicker Miles yanks JJ the more confidence it means he has in JL. Hell, we might have to lose a game and be on the verge of losing another in a row before he gets yanked.

But it rarely worked out for either coach.

I think Dick lost 3 games that year: LSU, SECCG, and the Bowl.

Spurrier was just super anal retentive with the QB position.

iirc he lost more games than he won after replacing a QB.

I'm also not in favor of a true 2 QB system unless QB #2 brings a totally different skill set to the table.

like the ability to throw a simple pass into the flat?

Lee should have been brought in MUCH earlier than he was. The fact that he wasn't may speak volumes about Lee's ability, or the coaches confidence in Lee.

I think it speaks more about the staff wanting to let JJ work his issues out on the field, and not create instability at the position. No one wants another 2004, IMO the staff handled Saturday correctly, given the fact that Vandy had little chance at actually winning the game.

In addition, think about it from a game theory standpoint...if Les sticks with JJ and he doesn't work out, he can ultimately blame JJ (or Crowton). If he calls for Lee, and Lee throws a pick-6 and costs the team a game, then it's all on him.

Well I did say "may". Obviously it could have been for any number of reasons.

However, JJ was sick, and the staff knew that. It gave them an appropriate out. . .why not take it?

from what I could tell he wasn't sick...I was at the game and have watched the replay, he never had any physical issues. Worse case is he had the shits and took an IV to keep from cramping.

And you know that he didn't?

I have heard that he had an IV at late during the first half and at halftime.

He was well enough to cheer with his teammates for a few minutes. . .I think you cracked the case, Mr. Holmes.

I guess everyone forgot how bad Jarrett Lee played during the Alabama and LA.Tech games last year. He really stunk up the field relieving an injured JJ.

Alabama game:
Lee was 4 of 10 for 44 yards with an interception on a fourth-down play at the end, and the Tigers were held to 95 yards rushing.

LA Tech game:
Lee, filling in for Jordan Jefferson, who has an injured right ankle, was 7-of-22 for 105 yards and a touchdown, a 38-yard catch-and-run to Brandon LaFell.

Also this is most puzzling considering everyone seems to think LSU produces more offense with Jarrett Lee:
Overall, La Tech ran 84 plays for 322 yards to LSU's 52 for 246 and had a 13-minute advantage in time of possession.

Granted Les Miles probably has nightmares thinking about the 2008 season of pick 6's so he rather have LSU remain vanilla to avoid another catrastrophe on the football field.

I figured this would be a good place to post an old (yet somewhat relevant) thread:

Jefferson, Lee, etc..
