JJ should've probably been about 12 for 20 against Vandy, there were a few drops. While not stellar...60% is not bad at all.

Did you even watch the game? Even TheDoc has caved in, why must you persist? Of the short throws that were completed, our receivers looked like they were trying to get on with Cirque Du Soleil as contortionists. As I said on Sunday, Dr. Plantz should have made a call on practice today to adjust their spines.

Let me say this s l o w l y since you can't seem to catch on. He is not progressing. He reached his pinnacle in the first half of the 2008 Chicken Bowl. Every bit of data that we have, from observers of practices, Spring game (yeah, eat me), and starting this season even more slowly than last, point to him not getting better. Maybe ever.

Give me Lee-I have been saying since the beginning of last season that JJ's mechanics were horrible, he could not seem to grasp the playbook, he has no pocket presence, and maybe worst of all, he doesn't seem to process information very quickly. Says nothing about intelligence, just how someone processes something. Some of the most brilliant minds just take a while to connect the dots. This explains the lock on the primary receiver, many of the sacks, the fact that he waits until the receiver has broken wide open (too late) and might even help explain why he does so poorly running the option. IMO, JL can run the option better than JJ, and no one is selling him on his running abilities.

I like Les, but his keeping his current OC and current QB could well be his downfall.

Miles is the most hard-headed man on the planet if he insists on playing just JJ. He is also a liar for claiming to have a competition at QB. Prove me wrong Miles.

I saw JL come into a game last year and throw a couple of wounded ducks, 1 could have easily been a pick 6. be careful what you wish for people

Shouldn't we all be asking ourselves what has the QB done for us lately? I know we all have referred to JL has "Mr. Pick 6" and he has played terrible against Louisiana Tech. But, this is also the same JL who has won games for us more notably the Auburn and Troy game.

JJ on the other hand, was very productive against GT and I was looking forward to him continue to get better and grow. If we were to judge him on his past performances and now, we would definitely agree that he has taken several steps backwards. So, I think that JL deserves a chance to redeem himself. As far as JJ, what has he done at QB lately besides go what? 9/20 with 2 interceptions? Your thoughts please!

I actually don't believe this statement at all.

First off, I am never one to bash a player and never will. Coaches are another story. They get paid hundreds of thousand of dollars and are ultimately responsible for players getting better.

That being said, there is no way possible he could be doing everything he could do to get better. I don't know if its lack of film study or what. It just seems like plenty of times dropping back to pass, we seem oblivious to where the open WR's are and hold the ball entirely too wrong. Do we not understand coverages or what? Our own routes that we're running?

I just don't understand how we've regressed in our passing game. Having as many starts as both of our QB's have, you've seen pretty much all you can see as far as defenses, and coverages are concerned.

So JJ makes a plea?! He definitely has some serious answering to do now that he has decided to open his mouth. It kind of reminds me of all the players who have talked smacked or guaranteed wins in the past only to find that they stuck their foot in their mouths. I will respect his plea and give him the benefit of the doubt, but I can't help but wonder if JJ would have been better off saying nothing at all. JJ it's time to put up or shut up!!!

His interview on WAFB just now was pretty telling. He is really defensive (maturity issue?):

I'll see if I can find a link if they have it posted.

First, kudos for funneling all the discussion into a single thread

quote:

Here is my simple take on the QB's: Les got unlucky when we didn't go up 37-10 on UNC. If we had done that, Lee gets some reps in that game, which benefits him and the team.

IMO, I don't see how JL was considered ok to start at the Swamp as a RSFr in '08, but not mature enough to be put into a game with a 20pt lead.

Some other thoughts I don't recall seeing in this thread:
a) In the post-game, Gordy Rush described JJ's play as a "robot;" (his exact word but pretty spot-on IMO). Also mentioned he watched the UNC EZ film and JJ usually locked onto one receiver.

b) I'm all for trying a two (or even more, e.g., wildcat) QB approach; not necessarily a 50-50 setup but one where the starter gets to watch from the sideline to let his head settle if needed. Both have had their opportunities and failed to step-up.

c) Although it hasn't always worked there have been instances on using multiple QB's with varying roles successfully:
- Hodson-Guidry in '86-'87.
- Ensminger-Woodley in '77-'79.
- Leak-Tebow at UF in '06
- Lamonica-Blanda for Oakland (before most of yours time)
- FSU in late 70's/early 90's (Stockstill and Burnham?)
- And here's one: in '97, Spurrier alternated Doug Johnson and Noah Brindise every other play against FSU, And it worked! (I'm sure Gator fans could elaborate).

d) JJ played poorly but he doesn't usually play that bad. He should improve. Let's hope in one way or another last week was the worst QB'ing we'll see all year.

I know JJ isn't referring to himself as a Superstar...more like a 1/2-Star like the old man in the Longest Yard stated! LOL!

I think I might like to see Lee play for an extended period of time just so we can get this out of our system. If Lee plays well, then everyone wins. If he fails, then at least we tried and the fans will calm down a little bit.

Of course, the fans would probably call for Bailey to start.

If Lee can't get it done, I would want to see Bailey, Ware, Shep...

What we have now will not win in the SEC. We have to find a player that has a higher ceiling...

Last year, we had one of the worst offenses in the country in spite of a stable of very talented skill players and a percentage completion that was very good (high completion percentage can be a very misleading stat).

Based on the two games we have seen, the offense is still not moving despite better O-line play and a more talented group of RBs and equivalent receivers.

Something has to be adjusted, and QB play has been the rate-limiting variable.
