No he didn't, but there are more than six total pissers in the entire Maravich Assembly Center as opposed to that many total in UCLA's hatbox of a ballpark. And that number is for all fans combined, both male and female.
How difficult or expensive do you suppose it would really be to have bleachers rather than forcing the majority of attending fans packed onto a slippery assed berm?
What a shitty little field and poor choice for holding a regional.

I haven't read or heard anyone saying that their is anything "special" about that stadium. There team was ranked #1 for a part of the year and they were one of the top teams in the country all year, therefore they get to host.

That was one season, and it was only a conference batting average, probably about 15 games.
So he was a little busy playing football, basketball and running track to focus soley on baseball. I guess he wasted all that talent and never made any significant contributions to society in his life.

I loved seeing all the respectful kids sitting on the Jackie Robinson statue...

Ya Jackie Robinson never really did anything important or reputable with his life...

Ticket sales during Pete's 4 years at LSU (3 varsity) helped build the place.
Also, attendance during the Maravich era dictated a need for better facilities. Pete basically put LSU hoops on the map. Not so w/ Jackie Robinson & UCLA baseball.

Little known tidbit: Lt. 'Buck' Compton, of "Band of Brothers" fame was a teammate of Jackie Robinson's on both the UCLA football and baseball teams. He was an All-America catcher there before going off to war.

Yeah, he also played on the football team and in the Rose Bowl.
Pg. 97 in the book Band of Brothers:
quote:
Compton had been an All-American catcher on the UCLA baseball team. The distance from the fleeing enemy was about the same distance from home plate to second base. Compton threw his grenade on a straight line - no arch- and it hit a German in the head as it exploded.

He did play in an NBA exhibition game that I attended shortly after the PMAC opened.
He also generated the interest in the basketball program through his awesome play.
Why would someone oppose naming a baseball diamond after Jackie Robinson if he had some relation to the institution absent some other baseball great affiliated with it?
