True fans go watch LSU play Direction State, not show up when Bama comes to town.

An Aggie friend of mine is reading this thread and thinks it's hilarious.

He told me to say that USL to LSU is like Texas Tech to UT & Texas A&M....a second rate school with a fifth rate fanbase.

Or of how the UT fanbase thinks of Texas A&M.

Well yea.. We have at least 80k true fans that do show up.

The other 20k are just happy to attend a game and disappear after a quarter. Then there are another good 15k or so that will leave after it gets boring.

I take my 3 year old to watch them play teams like ULL. When Bama comes to town I bring my brother.

No they actually have a competitive rivalry in all sports and both are in major conferences.

They are at least on an equal playing field.

UT - Big 12 / A&M - SEC

LSU - SEC / ULL - SunBelt

LSU and ULL is closer to UT and Rice.

I would say it's more like UT - North Texas.

True, my mistake, but 25.6 against LA Tech isn't even close to capacity...

Has ANYONE tried to compare our program to the lsu a&m program? Not anyone with any sense so please give it a rest...

As I have tried to get across all we want is to be the best that WE can be... Let me try this in simple terms that even the habitual tiger droppings poster can understand

We know you are a to 10 athletic program... We are proud of what WE have accomplished at the level that we compete.. In baseball we pull in 3,700+ fans per game... Other than 13 MAJOR P-5 programs in the entire country we are doing very well there. NO we do not get the 10k+ that you get... So please stop the constant drum beat that your program is on a higher plane...

Now on the field of play.

Football - Nope we don't compete
Basketball - Closer but Nope
Baseball - Whether you like it or not we DO compete. Now you are number 1 in the friggin country. You will PROBABLY win this weekend... but that is not a given

Now go fight with Bama fans or your counter part a&m fans (of the Texas variety)... You have won the argument with us....

But if I were you I would be worried this weekend... All the bravado you can muster will mean nothing when it is 3-2 in the 9th and those little Cajun bastards just won't go away...

I actually haven't been debating the athletics programs in this thread much at all. I've more enjoyed the debate of the name ULL and the disdain from ULL fans that LSU is the flagship university.

Because I agree with you. For the size of your program, you've done well. And frankly I wish you well whenever you aren't playing us. But many in your fanbase don't feel the same way about us.

Yes I agree and I wouldn't be worked up about this if the institute in Laughayette that I won't mention by name would insist on using its LEGAL name and not try to bombard the rest of the world who really doesn't care that you are THE university of Louisiana.

I would actually want you to win except against us for state pride if you would just follow the law.

Just to be clear, I am one of those that have great disdain for the program you choose to support... but I am not blind to the success your program has had....

As for the name... it baffels me to no end why it is such a big deal to you and others.. As I stated in my email thread above, you are not even in the same galaxy as UL... or I guess better stated we are not in the same galaxy as your program... So what difference should it make to you what we choose to call ourselves... As you and others have stated, or at least claim, you don't CARE about us at any time we are not playing... So we embark on a quest to be the best that WE can be... For us that includes a quest that began in 1984... legally approved for a short time until a LSU backed injunction stopped it and then a LSU backed legislature stopped it...

If La. Tech or ULM or anyone wishes to embark on the same quest, then let's compete and see who succeeds in this branding. But why oh why does it matter to YOU when you DON'T CARE?????

You haven't broken a law. It's just that legally, your name is ULL. Your president and the UL System refers to you as ULL, and said that they have no plans whatsoever to try to change the name to anything other than ULL.

Yet your fans flip out when they are referred to as ULL, ask ESPN and other third parties to not call you ULL, and refuse to admit that you are not the University of Louisiana. And your buddy joeleblanc in this thread has lost his mind at the thought of LSU being the flagship university of the state, because how in the world could ULL not even be in the running??? It's ludicrous and the fact that you can't see that is baffling to me.

There's no branding to compete over, I think that's what you fail to understand. No university will be considered the "University of Louisiana", no matter what you do. ULL, La. Tech, and ULM could create any fictitious criteria in the world to determine who should be the victor, and it wouldn't matter. Because you'd be competing over a non-existent prize.

And I won't speak for all LSU fans, but I "care" because it's something fun to debate. Once this weekend is over, I won't think about it again until the next time we compete against each other. Trust me, it doesn't keep me up at night, and I find the fact that this is even an argument in your mind comical. You are, in every legal and otherwise sense, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Period.

Just wait for the melt when the legislature slaps them down again over the athletic branding.

I know for a fact the discussion has started, albeit quietly. And it's not even LSU people who have started the conversation.

My terminology may be wrong, but when the Legislature passes a bill, it's law to me.

Hate to break it to you, but if LSU wants it to happen, it will happen.

Although frankly I feel like the legislature could put this one on the back burner and worry about roughly 1,000 other things more pressing to the state than this.
