In the article didn't he say that he would listen to one more offer and either say yes or come to LSU?

Mainieri's arse has got to be so chapped right now. This system sucks. Looks like it will be a long day.

Yea, but don't be an arse and act like you're coming to campus, and were a lifelong fan....blah...blah...blah... just to get a better offer.

Maybe he planned on coming then they met his asking price. Be like if you told a company you would go work for them then last minute you get a much better offer to work for someone else. You would obviously back out of your word for the better opportunity.

Maybe, but my problem is the grandstanding that was done. You still may take another offer fine, but don't unload your BS in the paper like he did. If Lee goes I would at least respect he didn't blow that much smoke.

What do you think he signed for? 400K, maybe 450? You also factor in that he is of age where he could have played one bang-up year and went pro afterwards as opposed to being locked in for 2 or 3 seasons in college.

I'll reserve judgement until someone can confirm what his bonus was, but this may not have been the smartest move for him long term.

The paper asked him and at the time he gave them the answer. Who knew the Red Sox would up their offer from 325k to 500k. Maybe he fully intended to go until he got that number.

500k or close to it, I am guessing 475

I understand his family situation, but that's just not long-term life changing money. I wish him the best though, I know his priorities weren't that of the rest of our recruits.

What about Austin Southall, the big hitting lefty from University Highschool. He was drafted in the 16th round I believe. What is his status?

Not it is not life changing but that is still a great deal of money and that is supposedly just his signing bonus. Sure he will also have say a 35-50k base salary as well.

Why not say well I'm moving in, but still willing to listen?

Hell he may have already put a deposit down on an apartment and had planned on moving in because he never thought the Red Sox would offer that type of money.
