Did they have him getting reps in the OF too? I didn't get a chance to make it

I did not notice where they were giving him reps in practice before the scrimmage, but he was the starting DH for the Gold/first team in the scrimmage. He's a switch-hitter, right? I don't know what we can take from the scrimmage lineups though--Slaid was in RF for the Purple team.

Yea, Ryan's a switch hitter.

I'm thinking Mainieri's been switching the players in and out of the scrimmages more this year than in years previous because the team is extremely young and inexperienced.

why don't you use the 20/80 grading scale like other scouts?

I'd prefer seeing the 20-80 scale, but I suppose I'm in the minority.

Does didier start to show off some of his potential this season?

Didier certainly is a gifted hitter. Problem is he never got into a rhythm last season because of the constant change at
3B. If the DH spot opens up he's more than capable in my opinion to hold down that spot.

He was playing 3B yesterday. I think it's something they will continue to experiment with early on.

Prob not too far off there. I'd think eventually, if Edward hits well, he'll be in the 5 spot. Just seems like the type of player you want hitting there.

I like that lineup. I think Rhymes may end up at maybe the 2-3 spot eventually.

Katz is good in the 9 hole.

I can't remember the last time LSU had 9 right handed batters in a starting lineup.

Starting Pitching

Ben Alsup (Sr.)*

Ryan Eades (Fr.)
Kurt McCune (Fr.)

Mainieri loses arguably his top pitching prospect he's ever had here at LSU. Anthony Ranaudo now with the Boston Red Sox is on to bigger and better things leaving Ben Alsup as the Tigers friday night starter. Certainly Alsup has not been groomed for this position since his arrival in the fall of 2007, but as one of two seniors on this team it will be his job to carry on strong. After seeing limited time his first two seasons Ben is hoping to spring board from his late season success of 2010 into this upcoming spring. While usually sitting in the 88-90mph range, Alsup needs to control his change and curve balls this season to have success on Fridays. The two newcomers to the rotation include Kevin Gausman and Tyler Jones. Kevin Gausman, LSU's most prized recruit from the 2010 class was not expected to be at LSU quite frankly by anybody. Today as it stands Kevin is penciled in as the Saturday starter. With a fastball that usually sits 92-94mph he has been seen to get it up to 97-98mph in the Summer months. Gausman will tune up his secondary pitches in time and with his arm and projectable frame the sky is the limit. Tyler Jones is a right hander that has great velocity and experience on the mound. A 21st round pick of the White Sox this past summer T. Jones has measurables on the mound to increase his draft stock with a solid year on center stage. Jones usually sits around 90-92mph on his fastball. The midweek starters if today would compose of right handers Ryan Eades and Kurt McCune. Both sit in the low 90's while Eades fastball moves a bit more in my opinion. If Ryan was not coming off his arm injury I would have him penciled in as the Friday night guy. There are intagibles that you can't teach a baseball player and Eades seems to have that "it" factor that makes him so good. If there is once weakness that Eades has at the moment it would be strengthening his arm to his pre-surgery days. One thing is for certain Gausman, Eades, and McCune are three outstanding young arms that the LSU faithful are going to enjoy for the next three years.

I'm really looking forward to Gausman. I hope Alsup can be a good Friday night starter for us.
