Joe Barksdale has gone unnoticed so far this year .... and do you know why .... because unlike last year nobody is hitting our QB from the blind side.

The offensive line is B maybe even B+ so far.

"Why bother"
yeah because there red zone performance is what really counts, and they run /score every time they are in or near the red zone, sort of like Alabama.

Barksdale was noticed at least three times by the refs in the WVU game.

Three penalties in one game is not good.

Holding penalties aside, the line has greatly improved. As for the holding penalties, some of THAT could probably be attributed to the eternity that JJ takes holding the ball and waiting for the receiver that he is staring at to get open.

With all the Ranting about the struggles at quarterback, it seems to me that there is still a big gap between the protection the QB is getting and what he should be getting. I know he doesn't pull the trigger fast enough at times, and seems to be more than a little indecisive, but he never seems to be able to throw without being under significant pressure. Yes, the offensive line is improved over last year, but that isn't a very high standard. Perhaps Miles' reluctance to shift quarterbacks is attributable in part to his, and his staff's, belief that the problem lies less with the QB than with the blocking.

The fact that our run game has been as good as it has with absolutely no passing threat whatsoever is a tribute to how well our line is doing. We are running the ball well against 8 man fronts and still producing.

It doesn't matter how long Jefferson has to throw. He holds on to the ball forever...he wants his receiver to be 15 yards away from the nearest defender.

Seriously if you just watch how long he hold onto the ball sometimes you would assume we have played some of the best secondaries in the nation every week. I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe the receivers we have are having that hard of a time getting open every pass play.

As a former ol, I can tell for sure JJ has had very good protection and running lanes have been established quite well. 3 seconds and the ball should be gone. That's it. The ol is performing well.

Oline is doing more than sufficient. JJ has had enough time to find open receivers and has a good running game to keep defensives honest. If he would be able to scan the field the 3-4 seconds he is getting would be plenty enough to complete a pass. Last year I think it was a valid argument. This year it falls squarely on JJ

WTF???

imo it wasnt the o-lines fault last year....it was JJ's half the time....take away half the sacks and its a average # of sacks......and i believe people are beginning to see THAT IT WAS JJ's fault as well...

yes the oline is better this year no doubt....but I believe we have a RB that is running harder as well...

A football team is like a chain, it is only as strong as its weakest link, and that link right now is at QB.

The ability to detect sarcasm on this site is below average. JJ couldn't find an open receiver during his warm-ups.

On Barksdale, anyone know if he was under the
weather for the game? Seems uncharacteristic
for him to get duplicate penalties.

I don't think anyone ever said JJ didn't hold on to the ball too long. However, last year the o-line was God awful. There's a big difference in sack already from last year to this year. Hell, even Vandy was getting to Jefferson all game last year.

Actually, I watched JJ & JL thrown during pre-game warm-ups and he threw accurately on short to medium distance passes but overthrew the longer routes...not to mention taking much longer to release the ball compared to JL who had a quicker release and was more accurate.

As a former defensive lineman I can see some weaknesses in the o-line, but not enough to blaim the issues in the passing game on. JJ just needs to get rid of the ball quicker. As far as the penalties, holding could be called on every play, just as it it was back in the 80's when I played. I don't get mad at our holding penalties, you should do all you can to protect your QB (even if he is not performing).
