O-line play - Is it something that can be fixed?

I know the offense was bad as was Harris play, but the thing that stands out more to me is how really really bad the o-line was. Malone gets the most criticism (and he was bad), but to me Pocic was the most disappointing lineman on the field.

Watching Harris take 7 step drops, you wonder why, and then you realize that if Brandon were 3-step and 5 step Pocic would be right in his grill from being knocked back 5 yards in pass protection. And Pocic blocking on the screen pass to Fournette was embarrassingly bad. He and Jeter look really soft and don't look to have very much strength.

I just don't know if you can fix something like this. And it's really discouraging when your supposed best O lineman is getting dominated.

Pocic wasn't his usual self, so you can expect that to be turned pretty quick. Clapp as well.....he stunk.

But, Malone would be a gradual improvement. Toby was fine. MT will shine at guard as his health improves.

I do expect improvement though as a whole due to Jeff Grimes removing his head from his arse.

Yes, it can be fixed, and I expect it to be. One thing Miles and staff have been great at is getting the most out of offensive line talent. This has been the least talented position group during the Miles era, not counting QB (and tied with linebacker).

This is actually a very talented offensive line. It needs to gel, though.

Pocic does a lot of things well. He's a craftsman at interior line. However, and you put your finger right on this, he loses leverage battles a lot. This is why I don't think Pocic will be such a high draft pick as he's been projected.

Certainly not when you're constantly shuffling them around from Spring to Fall. It will be important to let them settle in at a position. Pocic, though, should probably move to tackle and Clapp to center because something has to be done at the point-of-attack as Penrod stated. This thing with Pocic also happened against Alabama last year the same way it happened against Wisconsin.

If by pocic you mean boutte then i agree.

Boutte is olineman that was running the opposite way on LF's screen.

I think people are dismissing that Pocic and Clapp are both trying to come back from significant surgeries. Strength for either may not be 100%. MT also dealing with ankle recovery. Boutte and Malone just aren't very good IMO, and Weathersby is talented but largely inexperienced.

Long story short...Miles knows he's done because the Oline won't be able to do what his offense needs it to do. Right now the line is struggling to block 6-7 in the box...much less 8-9.

Gonna be a struggle tonight and all season b/c of Oline.

Pocic didn't have his best game, but he was our highest grade on offense according to PFF. I would expect that to continue. His height hurts him at times regarding leverage as previously stated. Clapp was exceptionally bad. Considering his play last year I would expect a big improvement.

Clapp is coming off surgery AND was in a walking boot before the game.

I wonder if they aren't fully recovered from injury and if that's something that will be problematic all season

What's your take?

Hight is what you need for an olineman. They need long arms to keep the dlineman's hands off of them.
If olineman are short they need to be extremely strong. Thats why centers like Barret Jones werent drafted high.
He was short and wasnt strong.

I agree, but in Pocic case, he's 3 or 4 inches taller than your average C and he sometimes loses leverage bc of playing too high. A

Yes, but not with miles tinkering with it. Our line regresses each year, much like our QB.

Jones wasn't a true center. He only played there for about 1 season.
