can we get rid of the "Boot" and having Arky fans think we are their rival? We should be playing A&M the last week of the season.

shut up with this shite. we have been playing Arky for a while now the last game of the season, and I like it, consider it a great rivalry and like the boot. The players seem to take a liking to the boot as well, thus whomever wins hoists the trophy up proudly.

also, rivals take time to build, and if you dont think that year in and year out the Arky game doesn't mean something to the players and the fans, then Im not sure what you are paying attention to. Keep building rivalry and the boot!

In 2023, we'll hate each other just fine.

"Rivalries" take time, and A&M's not ready enough yet.

LSU's rival is whoever we happen to be playing in the BCSNCG that year!

That could change if Ole Miss went the way of Tulane, leaving Mississippi State in need of a husband. Arkansas and aTm just seemed forced. Mississippi is much more of a sister state to Louisiana.

Did it feel as gross writing that out as I just felt reading it? You can't really be rooting for this scenario...

LSU and Arkansas will continue to play on Thanksgiving weekend. While the importance of the Arkansas game should not be minimized, my guess is that this is also to protect the interests of LSU and Arkansas. Texas A&M should be playing Texas on the last weekend of the season, and hopefully soon Texas will wise up and put A&M back on the schedule. When that happens, it would be best if it does not disrupt any of the rest of the SEC schedule.

I prefer the rivalry already in place and ready to bloom big time against A & M.

Enough time has passed to "Develop" the rivalry with the hogs, it ain't happening

I dont understand people that say this. With the exception of this year, the LSU/Arky rivalry is always a great game and comes down to the last minute. Can you imagine, just letting go of the boot trophy and saying "this is not a rivalry any more." That would be fricking stupid. The players and coaches seem to think its a great rivalry growing each year, and a lot of fans do as well, besides some on TD.com. I love the Arky game and think its a rivalry brewing bigger each year.

1. Sounds like you are hearing this more than just in this thread to me, so I ain't alone in thinking "it ain't gonna happen"

2. I appreciate you feel differently, no I do not think it is stupid to drop the Boot Trophy, frankly I think the trophy is stupid.

thats definitely your opinion. in my opinion, it has already happened a while ago. WHy is the trophy stupid? Its a cross state border rivaly that was spawned when Arky joined the SEC. Since Tulane football has been irrelevant since the 70s, and once our big one main rivalry, why not have Arkansas as one as well. Arkansas is a very legit program that deserves us to say they are a rival. Again, my opinion.

Certainly some of what you are saying is correct. I simply think more folks from Louisiana have more family ties, more business relationships, visit and experience more events in Texas than in Arky. Could be wrong but do not think so.

I also think there is more interest in the A&M game than the arky game as a result. Certainly will become quite evident this year and every year after.

The only trophy that aTm will be needing for awhile will be KY and Prep H.

Oh, I agree with you here. As a kid going to LSU games in the 70s and 80s. I used to love opening the season with A&M. They are a natural rivalry for us that will probably come a lot quicker and a lot more natural than the Arky game. But, I still believe Arky is a great rivalry. Im thinking maybe a 3 way rivalry trophy bt us, A&M and Arky and expand the boot to show east TX.

I could go for that, seriously, would spice it up, it just seems like a dull game now, not that it does not have serious repercussions, but it is more about the repercussions than the rivalry, at least for me.

I am 62 and I remember those earlier games against A&M and miss them and glad they are returning.

The thing is, is that the Arky A&M may be more of a natural rivalry because they were old Southwest COnference rivals.

I still do believe, though, that A&M's cadet band is one of the most entertaining. I remember back in the early 80's at Tiger Stadium, A&M's band was getting ready to play and some dumb arse Tiger fan through a plastic cup full of something and hit a cadet. My dad jumped up and almost whipped his arse. He eventually got turned in to stadium security.

The boot, while I put little to no stock in it, is our best trophy. Much better than the magnolia bowl.

I gather you mean the actual hardware, the trophy... If this is what you mean, i think it is worthless, it is not the trophy that is important, it is what it represents, that is why the "Old Brown Jug" is so powerful, etc...

Since there is little to no rivalry, the trophy means nothing, at least to me.
