I agree with OP no such thing as turning on the radio and getting a quick update from Hawthorne, if you don't follow the broadcast from at least the beginning of inning, quarter, half, period.... you're screwed.

I have no problem understanding him. He's colorful and interesting. If you don't understand him, maybe you are the problem.

When you're driving and for some dumbass reason the SEC XM Channels refuse to play baseball games, you're only hope is to catch 870 am and listen to the game. Yet 10 miles later you realize you still have no clue who is batting, winning, or the count. Yet you're more than aware who the third sacker is because he creams his pants each time he says it.

It's easy to fallow Hawthorne on the radio, it's just the game you are following might not match the game they are playing.
Watch a game in person and listen to him on the radio at the same time and it's like watching one game and listening to another at times.
I'm not a big Hawthorne hater but he makes mistakes in the call and doesn't go back and correct them at times.

Most fan bases of good teams love and appreciate the commentators for their teams, especially those that have been doing it for 20+ years. We are the exception I guess. It's extremely disappointing.
I love Hawthorne. He is the voice of the tigers and always will be. Deal with it and enjoy him while he is there.

Nobody hates him, he just isn't a very good baseball broadcaster. People that think he is good at it either have no real understanding of the game, have never listened to real announcers, or both.
