I do like when during punts in football he says

A called strike means the ump called the pitch a strike. That's not the same as a swing and a miss broheem.

A swinging strike out and a "called" strike out are clearly different. How do you not understand that

Well you can indeed swing for a 3rd strike right??? What would it be called?? Strike 2??? No it's a 3rd strike, or what I guess you would want him to say a "strike out" which in fact is a 3rd strike.

Jim, is that you???

Haven't read the whole thread but in response ti the poster that says "if you think Hawthorne is bad, listen to some other scools announcers". By that logic, as long is there are average coaches at other schools, we shound ne ok with an average coach as well right?

Do other teams' announcers call home runs the second the ball makes contact with the bat, only to be caught short of the warning track?

I am so sick of this excuse, and that's exactly what it is - an excuse.

Hell, my 78 year old father LOVES LSU, but I sure as hell don't want him doing play-by-play.

It just galls me that some of you won't let go of some the mistakes that Les, PM or JJ have made, but you're cool with having a barely average to above average PBP guy making mistake after mistake every broadcast. Two of those programs are perennially top 10, but Hawthorne is not. LSU deserves better.

I'm not saying fire the guy. Give him a nice PR job in the Athletic Department, since he loves LSU so much, and let someone else call the games.

Oh for God's sake let it go.

The guy calls 200 pitches in a game and you want to have a circle jerk over called or swinging strike.

All this bitching is making me hope Hawthorne stays another ten years just to make you butthurt clowns suffer.

no, it's just not accurate

like.. at ALL

if I have to rely on jim's eyes to tell me whats going on, i'm just screwed.

he doesn't relay what's going on in the game very well to the listener.

and yes, when he says "swing and a miss called strike three" he sounds really stupid.

I don't understand what is so difficult about just describing what happens. You must have some sort of disability if you can't.

Was coming here to post exactly this. Just because other schools settle for average doesn't mean LSU has to

Yes. Deserves. LSU fans put a lot of money into the baseball program and without the support of the fans, the program wouldn't be nearly as successful as it is today.

The fans deserve a better broadcast than what we are currently getting.

By Godfrey it must be accurate.
All of the time. Each and every time because I am never wrong. I never make a mistake. I will tolerate nothing but the perfection that I personally embody.

quote:

and yes, when he says "swing and a miss called strike three" he sounds really stupid.

And he says this how often? How many times in a game has he said this? Does he say this in every game?

And speaking of sounding stupid, do you in your wildest dreams think this bitching about little things like this sound intelligent?
Do you really? You think this picking out one or two events in a ball game that has usually over 200 events to harp on is a sign of intelligence?

Is your ego that huge?

Get a life, man.

If old Jim would wait just a second to SEE what happens before speaking, he could be much more accurate.

He tries to predict, guess, and and analyze all while a play is happening instead of simply announcing what has actually occurred.

Calm down, Jim.

The problem is that it happens every game. If you don't realize that, you aren't paying attention.

Jim's fine or at least not worth all the bitching.

I've concluded you guys just like to bitch. If it's not JH, it's the AD or the hitting coach or Miles or the OC or ticket prices or coaching pay or fans leaving early or some other BS.

It's getting so I enjoy listening to the misery you guys swim in every day.

So, because Hawthorne doesn't give enough updates or clearly articulate what's going on, that makes someone stupid
