You should write a letter to Joe.
Better yet just print this thread... mail it on over.
Make sure to leave your number.
Then wait for the text from him that says this:
Honkus, a total of zero fricks is given about you and your crybaby friends on a message board opinion of the VOICE of the TIGERS.
Thanks for your support of LSU Athletics.
oh yeah,

Radio and TV PBP are 2 completely different animals. TV is a visual medium where the announcer does not need to go into as much detail as radio, since there are viewers, not just listeners.
Yet those tv PBP guys still make tons of mistakes while announcing the action...oh ok that is perfectly ok since I can see what's happening. No need for accuracy since I can see it
Y'all are retards

ole miss and miss state both have better guys than hawthorne. ive listened to each several times

really good sports radio announcers are dead. it is an art and the present guys just don't hack it. radio as a medium is still very much alive but it's the commute talk and humor crap; lowest common denominator stuff that appeals to the masses. baseball on the radio, with QUALITY ANNOUNCERS is really a good way to enjoy a game; too bad that option is dead.

University of Hawaii has one of the best baseball announcers on any level. He's just great at calling a game.

They have more leeway, yes. But it's the nature of the work. Radio is different. There is more necessity to be accurate and concise. I'm not taking a side, just making a point.

hawthorne just needs to retire, he is way past his prime. Hes and lsu icon but if he sticks around too long it will tarnish his name imo

I grew up listening to Gene Elston call the Astros games. He made you feel like you were sitting next to him in the broadcast booth.

Yet mistakes happen. It is the nature of the business.
Have you ever seen a team all rise to their feet in the dugout thinking a ball is gone and it gets caught short of the track? Announcers aren't allowed to do the same? People act like Hawthorne is the only one who does this.

He is better than what we have waiting to take over.

You made a list of horrendous mistakes Hawthorne makes that offend you so much.
Does he make all of these every game?
How many times a game?
Please cite documentable examples of your answer. Give us the mistake, the game, date and inning for each.
Thanks

Without reading the thread, I'm sure the top defenders of Jim said ghe following;
1) oh like you could do better
2) there are worse guys on other teams.
Ringing endorsements there, he's better at something he's done most of his life than someone who hasn't and he's not the shittiest announcer in his profession

Also I'm pretty sure the TV guys have someone else keeping the scorebook. I understand that Jim keeps his book as well as calls the game. Now if any of you have ever kept the scorebook, you know the level of concentration that takes. Try doing that and broadcasting a game at the same time.

Haven't read this thread but I prefer Hawthorne over most PBP announcers in baseball. Yeah, he fricks up but he's still better than most.
