i would vote for taking out 6 of the restarted advertising signs on the outfield wall
and putting a
picture type ad for each of the championships

What exactly is the problem here?

I don't know if you've ever been to any other school's yard, but a lot of them have something like this. Here in Houston, UH has a board that lists every time they've ever done anything pretty much. Making the regionals, supers, etc. I've seen that kind of stuff at other places. I think it's cool that we only have a list of Titles.

If we won the NCAA Title in basketball they'd damn sure hang a banner at the P-Mac, so why is this different?

Why is it different? Because one is a banner and one is a billboard. Damn, I thought that much was pretty obvious.

People, get over it, it's a sign. Do you honestly believe that a sign will cause a batter to lose concentration? Like the sign is going to jump on the field and grab him. Have any of ya'll that played sports were actually scared of some sign. My 8 year old grandson who plays soccer is scared shitless of that Drink Coke sign that is on the back fence. Signs can give people horrible nightmares. I'm sure Bama players will see Mike, on the intimidator in their dreams. New way to discipline a child. Bring said child to the Box, point at the sign, and say if you,re bad that big bad sign will come and get you.

Yes, the sign could cause a batter to lose concentration. The question was directed at someone who suggested it could be part of the new batters eye. If the sign was part of the batters eye the ball could get "lost" in the white colors on the billboard causing the batter to lose his concentration and vision of the ball.

So if instead of printing years on the board they just hung 6 banners on it that'd somehow make it different?

No, it would still be obnoxious. In case you haven't noticed, there are flags in center field that show the championships. If you're going to make some kind of comparison between hanging a banner in the PMAC and the Box, it should be about the flags.

I have no problem with someone liking the billboard, but this PMAC/banner thing is just an amazingly stupid comparison to make.

The only reason I make it is because they both commemorate the championships. I don't see a problem in calling out the championships on the board the same way I don't see a problem in using banners. Like I said before, there are plenty of schools that call out every tiny accomplishment they've ever had, and I think it's cool that all our board has is titles.

FWIW, I was bigtime opposed to it coming back prior to winning another title. Then I sort of decided that my big reason for not wanting to bring it over (that the titles won were by players who have long gone and it would not have any "Intimidation" factor to it) was put to rest when the 2009 team won another one.

But seeing this makes me go back to my original thought. not my original reason, since winning another one makes listing all the titles together relevent...but because it's wholely unnecessary. If you're going to slap a giant billboard up in right field, you may as well take down the very cool NC Flags in center. the flags are fantastic, and there was already a "waiting" one for the new title...the one to the right was an alex Box Innaugural season flag which can now be replaced by a 2009 title flag.

I don;t really care either way, but I'd prefer simply keep the great flags in center and adding titles there instead of blocking the view of campus which a giant interstate billboard that simply reiterates what's already being said by the flags. But that's just me...

They have already done that. There are 5 flags in center field which call attention to the titles won. A 6th one will go up next to them I'm sure. that would be the equvilant of the banner for basketball.

The Billboard is lagniappe...

Again...they already do that with the flags.

But what about mirroring Tiger stadium and adding some sort of National Championships mention in the scoreboard, like we have on the scoreboards in TS? That could get the EXTRA mentions you guys seem to want, and keep a giant billboard out of right field.

I like this idea

quote:

Mainieri called out to Alleva standing at the back of the Hall of Fame room, "Joe, are we getting a new Intimidator with a new number on it?" "Yeah, no doubt," Alleva called back.
