I am a Southeastern grad...means nothing- I, like my dad before me, were always diehard LSU fans. My dad's 1st LSU game was in the 30's and mine was in 1966. In the 80's we went to watch the games in Houston with the Alumni Association. I live & die when LSU loses a football game & follow most of the different LSU sports. My point is the fact you did not attend LSU means nothing- it's all about what's in your heart! And in my case Purple & Gold flows through my veins!

This is just dumb af. Why can't one just be a fan because he/she likes the program?
Rules for being a sports fan... gtfoh

This "you have to attend the school to be a fan" thing is mostly bullshite. Mostly.
I am the first and only in my immediate family to attend and graduate LSU, but my entire family has been LSU fans even before I was born. Am I the only one allowed to be a fan?
It's a product of being the only major sports near

The school was not affordable
This was the case for me. Unfortunately for me, my hometown school was ULL and that’s where my degree is from. I catch even more hell than normal for being a Tiger fan and ULL alum. Even people who know I’ve been a diehard LSU fan since I could talk still rag me about it. One of my college friends saw me at the LSU/ULL baseball game a few years back (wearing my purple of course) and made a big scene and started yelling out asking where my degree was from. It’s ridiculous. I’m not trading in my whole childhood and upbringing for being a fan of another school just because I spend 4 years studying academics there.

So I know I’m putting myself out here on the rant, which can be pretty brutal at times, but I want to get some honest feedback. I was a good baseball player in high school who dreamed of playing for Coach Bertman. Instead, I attended a conference USA school and have been a diehard Tiger fan ever since. Here’s the question: one of my buddies thinks I’m a lame arse because of my passion for the Tigers when I didn’t attend the school. He also thinks it’s lame that I joined the TAF to support them. I’ve never been to Baton Rouge, but I’ve been to LSU games at other stadiums and even made it to a bowl game. Is my buddy right or am I accepted as legit?
C’mon. You took three paragraphs to say “I like LSU, but I’m not an alumnus” ...you’re obviously an attention seeker.

We LSU alums welcome anyone who wants to be an LSU fan. NO degree necessary!
FYI...you can be an alumnus of a university without having earned a degree. You just need to matriculate there or take and pass at least one class.
My personal deal here is with the misuse of the term "alumni." Alumni is a plural word. Alum or alumnus are the singular versions (not getting into the older gender-specific terms). You cannot be an alumni of LSU. You can be an alum or an alumnus of LSU.

Do LSU satellite schools count? I have 2 degrees from those....but don’t use them... what the hell is this thread about? There’s people I know that dropped outta HS that have barns painted in Purple and Gold! A Fan is someone who loves something FANATICALLY!
I worked at a guide camp for King Salmon in Alaska one year and you’d be surprised at the reactions I got from my LSU cap from customers around the globe really. People just love Southern Hospitality from Louisiana folks.

I'm not alumni and I bleed purple and gold. So you're not lame.

I could have written this myself.
