He'll get over a hundred yards but hopefully no huge runs.

I dont mind that as long as we take away the big plays

I'd rather him have 100 yards and one of those be a 45 yard pop than him consistently gashing us for 6 yards a pop.

Devine is a great player. Very elusive, hard to tackle, and fast.

Have you watched him play? I love how our fans belittle some of the great players we'll be going against. He can easily give us problems.

I have watched him play, and you're right that he can give us problems. However, almost every team we play has a guy who can give us problems. He's a good player and deserves our attention, but no more so than the better offensive players on any other team we face.

Is that why he only had 111 yards on 23 carries vs. Coastal Carolina?

That's with a long of 39 which means minus that play Coastal Carolina of all people bottled him up pretty good.

Do you realize what caliber team Coastal Carolina is?

I've seen him play. I'm not blown away.

He gets a couple big plays every game he plays in. Big deal. He's not going to consistently gash us for 6, 7 yards a pop which is what you really have to worry about.

He isn't Reggie Bush

you continually mention his stats, so you know you're ignoring the rest of his career and are only going by a sample size of 3 games

Using his stats in any one game to justify your argument is very weak.

Shep only rushed for 13 yards and had 28 yrds receiving against MSU, who while obviously better than Coastal Carolina, is a perennial SEC doormat with Big East level talent. Do you think WVU should be concerned about Shep?

Throughout his career his YPC have consistently gone down. This is probably due to him getting more touches.

I know he's capable of making big plays. I'm not arguing that. I just don't think that he's the type of player that will put fear in this defense. If he played on a team the caliber of last year's Florida team, then hell yes I'd be worried about him. But he plays on a team with far inferior talent to us IMO

Their offense is not inept, Geno Smith is a very good Quarterback and will be able to stretch the feild, this will be a very big test for LSU. WVU is by far the best team we have faced this year.

Shep definitely has the potential to make a big play but he's not the type of guy you spend a ton of time game planning for.

He consistently drops short passes, they rarely throw to him deep, and he'll get a chance to make some big plays in the running game on reverses, counters, and such.

he's avg'd over 6 ypc in his career, that's a great back. you wanna argue the rest of his team isn't on par w/ UF, that's another argument

Sure he might get about 90 yards and break off about a 35-50 yard gain at some point but it's not like they're going to run up and down the field on us

If Devine breaks loose, we're not catching him

Peterson can catch him

And team speed >>>> individual speed.

We might be playing a lot of 5 DB sets anyway since they've been passing more this year. I don't see him running wild on us.

From another thread:

RB

Everyone knows about Noel Devine. No one playing college football has run for more yards than him. Grade: Excellent (A).

So there a 0 players in college football who have more yards than him rushing

Well he is a senior on a team that has primarily run the ball for a long time.

It's not like he is anywhere near eclipsing the NCAA career rushing record...

That is a push with shepard. I have watched film on him in high school when we were recruiting him. He is the TRUTH.

I would still take shepard over him though.

You are correct. Devine will be playing football this weekend.
