I would be willing to put up $100. However, any type of donations would be greatly appreciated. It is very possible for the TD community and Tigernation to come up with roughly $50,000 for the band to go to UW. ESPN will be covering this game, and it would be a real shame that thousands of Tiger fans who will be flocking 2000 miles away to see their team play won't have their band there. Not to mention the fans who will be watching the game on TV. To me, if the band isn't at UW Sept. 5th, it will feel wrong. Let's move this forward and get as much help as we can. Thank you

Plus that big arse contract the SEC has with ESPN begins this fall. This is just bullshite that Tiger Band won't be represented in Washington. With the several thousand Tiger faithful expected to be there, Tiger Band needs to be there. The music of LSU is such a rich part of what makes a Tiger football game so memorable. The pride people in Louisiana have for the Golden Band from Tigerland is immense. Not sending at least a pep band makes LSU look cheap. The money is there but is being spent on something else.

Many Tiger fans that live on the west coast have been looking forward to seeing LSU in Seattle. We remember the Arizona game and how upset we were that Tiger Band wasn't there. The excuse was new uniforms. Two national championships later we are now told they don't have the money. Well, it's getting tiring donating money to TAF, yearly increase in ticket prices and increase in concession prices for there not to be money for the band. This ain't Duke.
$C and UCLA both send at least a pep band to every away game. Cal had one at Tennessee. The SEC is the richest conference in the nation. They just need to put up the $50,000 or so and send a pep band.

By the way, this is going to turn out to be a PR nightmare for the Athletic Department.

i hate to say it, but GOOD. What sucks is i'm going with 5 friends who have never seen LSU play in person, and no band.

I think it will be closer to 15,000 at this game. This needs to turn into a PR nightmare. All the stuff that the Athletic Department pushes onto the fans is not acceptable when you don't get a pep band from Tiger Band there. There was a lot of flack following the Arizona game about not having a pep band.

I'm a student who worked a lot of extra hours to be able to go to this game and now after reading this, I'm kinda upset to tell ya the truth. The band, to me, is sometimes just as important to the game experience as the players on the field. I'll donate whatever I can to get em there!

Indiana, the Athletic Department doesn't receive any state funds but is self sufficient, supported by the fans. That is bringing apples into a conversation about oranges.

Quit bringing up budget cuts and furloughs. It has nothing to do with the LSU Athletic Department budget.

The LSU Athletic Department is self-sustaining. Bertman and Alleva have drilled this into our heads over the years, and they're not going to "conveniently forget" that now.

quote:

TO: Fans, Friends, and Supporters of LSU Athletics

FROM: Skip Bertman, Athletics Director

Last month, I outlined for you the way LSU Athletics spends its money, and this week I am following up with a report on how LSU Athletics makes its money.

The LSU Athletics program is one of the most successful and prosperous athletic departments in the country. It is also one of the few that is self-sustaining. That means that LSU uses no state tax dollars to fund its athletics program. Zero. Not a penny of state tax dollars that comes to Louisiana State University is used for athletics.

The LSU Athletic Department makes all of its own money, generating revenue from ticket sales, corporate sponsors, radio and television, concessions, merchandising, parking, SEC revenue distribution and private donations.

The athletic budget is separate, but the AD is not separate from the university. It contributes funds and has been asked to do more. Bad optics to spend a lot money that benefits so few under these circumstances.

$45,000 divided by $84 million in revenues ... you do the math.

I'm in for $100. I'm sure my dad will be in for the same. We'll both be there for the game.

You don't get it, Indiana. Cutting the band is going to hurt LSU more. Those planning on making this trip and spending a couple of thousand dollars are not happy about this. Bad optics. LSU looks cheap when they are spending so much money to make this trip and support the Tigers. They can use Tiger Band to actually raise more money. Pep Rallys in Washington with a fee. You get a couple of thousand at a rally paying some bucks for food, drink and the band, it will pay for itself and then some.

I bet our "simple but nourishing" meals weren't 8 dollars a person. Always a Jason's Deli box.

And making the trip could cost donations from those who think this is unnecessary. Political enemies will make a lot of hay that could cost more state dollars. You cannot separate the AD from LSU in this regard. While it's probably too late in the game as far as logistics go, the best approach would be to raise the money independently of LSU. I really don't want to get in a debate over this. I just wanted to bring up the reality of what's going on. Let's just agree to disagree

50,000 is a good estimate but I'm guessing its a little low. There are lots of expenses no one thinks about.
