I witnessed a fight in the East Upper last year at the Miss. State game.

Two baws from Golden Meadow were sitting next to me, and they killed off almost an entire fifth of crown before halftime. The bigger guy didn't seem that drunk, but the smaller one was off of his arse.

During halftime he gets into a screaming match with a dude to his left, I couldn't figure out what it was even about. But the drunk dude gets up, and punches him in the face. They get into it for a bit, then a state trooper comes in and breaks it up.

Are today's college guys just a bunch of pussies and openly bisexual?

Funny way to put it, but this is basically it. Masculinity is on the decline in America. My dad, AND MY WIFE, have been thrown out of Tiger Stadium. I can grow a hair on my palm. Do you think these college pussies can?

Another theory is that they leave at halftime, before they get really pissed off. This interferes with my previous self-serving theory, but could be correct.

Not to steal your thunder but i think all the fans of both teams make it back alive from all 12 games that involved lsu.

Students are robots. They aren't programmed to fight.

Or maybe we are civilized and know how to handle ourselves at a public venue? We can’t say STTDB because it is a bad example for the little ones but seeing drunk people fight and getting thrown out is the perfect role model?

I think it has a lot to do with the cost of tickets these days and it becoming more of a corporate social event. Fights still happen in the student section but seems rare these days-i think bc they dont stay past half time.

It mostly has to do with the fact if you get in a fight now it will be recorded by someone’s phone. There are some people in our section that would definitely fight if given the chance. But in the 80’s and early 90’s you could always count on one for a night game.

I remember before a Florida game some Florida fans had a large bed sheet with something Florida on it. They started walking through the stands about an hour before kickoff towards the student section. An LSU student snuck up behind them and stole it and was running to the student section with them chasing them to get it back. They got close to the student section and everyone was ready to fight them. Didn’t happen but it was a great drunken college memory.

I feel very blessed to have lived through all my stupid collegeness (and beyond a little) before everyone had a cell phone. Holy cow we would all be in jail.

YEP, it happened two seats over from me. Guy was drinking way too much hard liquor and was just goIng on the typical Les Miles rant. He used some choice words the family in front of him didn’t appreciate and they asked him to chill out after listening for the entire game. Then... boom, punches are thrown and I’m in the middle breaking it up and getting some shots in after getting a nice shot from being in the middle like a dumb arse.

hell yea. I was actually arrested (or at least put in a paddy wagon along with others and brought downtown to jail) during hell week. for the younger set, that was ole miss week. I got cornered by a police k nine in the student union. the dog stopped my arse cold and I didn't move a muscle until the cop came and "rescued me". yes, I was drunk. we were all drunk and raising hell. downtown, the head cop? came (after we'd been there awhile sobering up) and let us all go. they were just enforcing order. great times.

In the 80's you could sneak a 5th of grain alcohol into the stadium unless you were stupid about it. My memories of being in the student section form 83-86 begin with the smell of bourbon. Who really cares about fights? Hell it was some of the funnest times I EVER had!!!!!

Late eighties early nineties, seemed like at least two fights every game...at least one of them in the Greek section. Seems like the greeks are much dorkier (looking) these days from what I remember. Maybe there’s a connection?

...or maybe they’ve just moved their fighting to the parade grounds, pregame.

Damn good questions here...a friend and I were talking during the aTm game about exactly the same thing. I don't think I saw a single fight in the stadium this year and during the early '90s, there never failed to be at least a couple per game.

There were some good fights in Tiger Stadium in the late 80s. The most violent sporting event I have ever attended was in West Virginia. I worked in the mining industry for a few years in the 90s. We were given tickets to Ohio State vs West Virginia in Morgantown 1998. Sold out, SRO, national TV. Night game. I personally witnessed no less than 30 fights. OSU fans are pricks. The worst I have ever seen. At the pre-game tailgates the OSU fans were provoking the WVU folks with incest taunts. The WVU folks, fueled by homemade 'Mountain Dew' were ready to respond. In the stadium the fans were intermixed. It was a European soccer riot.

Cell phones reduce fighting. In the good old days you push, throw a few punches, and ice yourself down the next day. It's over. Today, the videos of your scuffle go viral, police find out, your boss finds out, you lose your job or some such. Better just to chill

The players used to fight also. Back in early 80’s LSU and Tulane had a big fight on the field.

Ha. It was really bizarre that all the sudden a few cup with drink and ice came raining down and everyone in my section was like "da frick?" only to look up above and see a full blown brawl going on. My view was someone obstructed because of the overhang of the SEZ, but it still gave me flashes to the good ole days of Tiger Stadium.
