Who cares?
It's pretty clear that folks are grasping at whatever straws they can to justify their teetering hope that Joe Alleva is not going to screw up this hire. This in spite of the overwhelming evidence that it is going to be an embarrassing shitshow. I'd suggest you seek comfort in the fact that even if Alleva wanted to hire a worse coach, he's clearly not competent enough to identify one. And I'm not sure a coach worse than Johnny Jones even exists.

Hate that it didn't work out because it's his dream job and he seems like a good hi but it has to be done

That's a bullshite excuse.
NO ONE but Joe Alleva had the authority to make the hire. I have no doubt that Dale Brown and other former Brown era players were really pushing for Jones. But what exactly could they do if Joe didn't hire Jones? Not show up at the PMAC? Who cares. Outside of Shaq I don't think a ton of ex-ball players were making huge donations to the athletic dept., so it's not as if LSU would be forsaking tons of money if they didn't hire Jones.
If Alleva makes a good hire that season and LSU is now 5 years later a consistent NCAAT participant and player on the national stage do you really think the fanbase would give a shite that Brown, etc. didn't get their guy as HC?
The bottom line is this. If Alleva was strong-armed into hiring Jones, it was of his own doing. After a third straight losing SEC season with basically no one of note in the upcoming signing class, it was abundantly clear to everyone (including Johnson!) except JA that Johnson wasn't the guy for the LSU job. Unfortunately, as has become Joe's M.O., he refused to make a change when it was clearly necessary. Instead, Johnson gets the hell out of Dodge, to a WORSE basketball program, after the coaching carousel had already been in full motion. Joe was late to the party due to his own ineptness.
Jones was not Alleva's first choice. Otherwise the "search" would have literally lasted 5 minutes. No, Joe tried to play catch-up and find someone to replace Johnson. Unfortunately, most of the other schools with openings had already made their hires while LSU was just getting started with a search. With the mid-April signing day approaching, it's likely that most established coaches didn't want to leave for LSU that late in the game. Joe was left with having to hire a mid-major coach one way or the other. With that being the case, the Brown et al collation said "if you're going to hire a mid-major guy, you may as well hiring one that knows LSU."
Alleva screwed things up by not being proactive. Sound familiar?

That doesn't help his case any.

I don't like the idea of Alleva still being around when this change is made.

I saw Alleva at Costco's last night and told him to hire Ray Harper and his direct quote was "nah, that dude suck".

In addition to being a bunch of b.s., how pusillanimous can you be to announce the "firing" before the SEC tournament. This seems like either incompetence by management to pre-announce the firing to destroy the team's zeal to win OR it is the anti-Jones crowd posturing.

Aaaaand now let's all wait for Alleva to frick this up.
