re: Nick Saban Quote....

Pretty sure the quote everyone is referencing was on like a BCS countdown type show on ESPN and they had all three coaches on via satellite at different points in the show. Not sure how you would go about getting like a transcript or video clip but supposedly ESPN has checked all of their tapes from that time frame and can't find anything.

BTW I am not saying he said that just that's when he would have said anything like that. One thing though back then Saban was usually very careful with his words. He probably only referenced LSU's position at the time.

how did this quote rumour get started anyway, does anybody know the origin?
Some idiot on here heard it on Songy and ran with it. I've been trying to debunk it for two weeks now.
Even if Saban said it in private at some point, it's virtually inconceivable that he said it in public in 2003.

Go to Wikipedia and search 2003 bcs championship and look under tab titled set up and read the ¶

I know Saban lobbied very hard to get us into the BCS title game that year.
No, he most certainly did not. To the contrary, he went out of his way to play the "above the fray" card and "we just concentrate on winning" and "all the rest of that stuff will sort it self out however it does" etc etc.
The main douche "lobbying" in 2003 was Pete fricking Carroll, the piece of shite that declared "I think we just won a national title" on the field after Rose Bowl win over Michigan.

RE:
You beat me to the punch. This is exactly what happened and Nick Saban did say this for this exact reason. He wanted to make sure that he was in the big game having just won the title and was lobbying against an Okl USC matchup.

actually it does LSU, USC, and Oklahoma all had one loss and out of those three Oklahoma didn't win their conference KSU did.
Its context is that saban thought LSU and USC should play and not have oklahoma in the title game. He was trying to make sure LSU got in the game.
at the time
Oklahoma-#1 bcs
USC-#2 bcs
LSU #3 bcs.

You are absolutely full of shite.

That makes less sense. So Stoops, who didn't win his own conference that year said a team that didn't win it's conference shouldn't get in?
Reading comprehension is hard.

This is 100% CORRECT.
This was one of the few times in Saban's coaching career where he acted with dignity and class. Saban knew at the time LSU wasn't a media darling and didn't want to piss off those who were trying to control the BCS. He knew the best route to go was to be humble and keep his team focussed.
I don't care if I get bashed for this, but this is a fact. I was working with the team at this time and it dictated to anyone and everyone who may be questioned by the media, whether it was coaches or players, to respond in this fashion.
The rant cracks me up daily. You frickers think you know, but have no fricking clue.

This.
I realize we all hate Napoleon now, but it's like we've all forgotten what the guy was like when he was here. He was SO noncontroversial it pissed us off at times. There is ZERO chance Saban said this in public, and if he did it would be available...ESPECIALLY if he had said it on air some where. Hell, it would have been shown AGAIN in 2006 when they wanted to jam Mich and OSU down everyone's throat.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the tenacity LSU fans are showing trying to keep this rumor alive (either knowingly or out of pure ignorance) but at some point it might be good to let it go.

No way a quote could just be made up and attributed to a coach.

Bingo. While Saban had a-hole tendencies at LSU, he wasn't nearly the a-hole he is now at Bama. Hell, even people on the "inside" at LSU know this and say this. Saban would never have whined in 2003 like he is doing today. That's the "bama" coming out in him.
Entitled/media darling programs bring out the worst in anyone who gets involved with them. Kind of like when a new politican makes his way to Washington DC for the first time: he is transformed into a POS.

Oklahoma's lose along with LSU defeating Georgia propelled LSU to #1 in BCS, Oklahoma #2 and USC #3 since they did not have a final championship game to help or hurt them like the other 2.
Oklahoma actually stayed #1 in the BCS after its conference championship loss. LSU moved from #3 to #2 and USC stayed at #3 after moving up to #1 in the 2 polls.

What kind of an a-hole would do such a thing?!?
At least no one has made a graphic of the Saban thing, yet...
