NFL shouldn’t have let 2020 count towards draft eligibility

I wish they had worked with the NCAA, who decided the watered-down season shouldn’t count against players’ college eligibility.

The flip side of that should have been it not counting towards the “3 years removed from high school.”

The NCAA has nothing to do with the rule.

It's a collectively bargained rule. They would have had to work with the NFLPA to change it. And there is no way they would have been able to get something like that through the NLRB.

Why would the NFL want to do that?

They wouldn't.

They wouldn't want to artificially suppress the available new (read: cheap) talent.

Well that would be violating their own CBA and would open them up to a lawsuit from literally every first year draft eligible player.

The NFL is a business. They don’t care about your college football enjoyment.

For at least 3 real seasons yes. On the hook for the 4th year’s tuition if you leave early. And NIL money should be tied to playing when healthy including bowl games.

So why not address this like Major League Baseball?

Shouldn't that satisfy everyone?

As fun as it’s been watching he and Joe this year he never should have been allowed into the league after only playing 2 years and then sitting out while healthy.

I just want to see the greatness of CFB restored and preserved. That should take priority over players’ self interest.

This doesn’t make sense. The NFL system is more geared towards keeping players in college than the MLB system.

MLB you can go pro straight out of high school or be 21 which for some players is after their sophomore year. And that’s not going into being able to go to JUCO and be draft eligible after one year in college.

What the actual frick? Why on earth should an adult in a free country not be allowed to work but be forced to stay in college another year because of a pandemic? And why should the NFL care that it wasn’t a full season?

The rule isn’t there so they go to 3 years of school. They don’t have to go to college, technically, to be drafted. It’s just 3 years post high school. It’s already the sport that requires the most time post high school, why waste more of their time? Some players should be in the NFL. Stingley could’ve been in the NFL after his freshman year.
