Next year, LSU is going to be right there with Bama and UGA. Let's look at a depth chart.

I'm not going to lie - both of those teams are absolutely loaded with big-time football players for next year even with Bryce Young and Stetson Bennett, and a host of first-round picks from both teams, moving on.
But LSU is not-so-quietly building a roster of exceptionally good college players, and we're going to be a lot closer to Georgia and Alabama (and head and shoulders above the rest of the SEC) in aggregate talent.
Consider...

You have, based on this and assuming nobody leaves after the spring, four more scholarships left to give out. It's fair to assume you'd spend two on linebackers and two on offensive linemen to fill out depth there.
But outside of a couple of spots, some of which (particularly on the offensive line) you really don't have the holes you think because if somebody goes down you can simply slide somebody over, this is going to be one of the deepest and flashiest collections of talent LSU has had in a long time. Kelly talked about getting younger as a team, but the 2023 LSU lineup is going to be a bunch of grown-arse men.
And they will play on the same level as Alabama and Georgia. Mark it down.
We could very, very easily be playing this time next year. We just need the ball to bounce right for us a few times over the course of the season. Again, outside of Bama and Georgia there isn't a team in the country who can match this depth chart.

FSU is building something over in Tallahassee. They are every bit as good in the portal as we are. FSU and Bama are the marquee games next year. Both likely top 10 matchups, potentially top 5.

Great breakdown. Typo on Mason Taylor name btw.

Florida State will be a quality opponent.
But while they've helped themselves in the portal, their freshman class won't be anything remotely like what we have coming in, and they don't return close to the talent we do.
We're going to be sizable favorites in that game and we should roll. It'll be a great win.

Bama’s QB doesn’t scare me at all. Huge downgrade

I don’t think Alexander will play safety

I would have thought they would have grabbed one of the big portal guys.
I guess they like Milroe and Simpson and the two freshmen.
If Milroe doesn't make a Jalen Hurts type leap in the passing game next year, we might actually shut them down. He's not going to be able to run around on us; Perkins will spy him and do to him what he did to that poor kid from Arkansas.

He's a perfect fit for free safety. He's tall, he's got great ball skills and he plays a very physical brand of ball even as thin as he's been at Southeastern. And when he gets to LSU's training table and strength program he's going to add a lot of good weight.
His coach mentioned that he had a great work ethic and that he was, even as a college player, calling him and asking for different workouts that he could do. Get to an SEC program as opposed to a Southland Conference program and you're no longer asking for extra workout plans; you're getting the state of the art.
Colby Richardson put on 20 pounds after he came here from McNeese. Zy will do the same thing and he's going to look like Grant Delpit when we're finished with him.
Free safety. Maybe strong safety because he can cover a tight end, but I like him as a center fielder who lays the wood and picks off passes.

Yet we could also be out of it after game 1 against FSU.

If we go into that game again without a tuneup game and they play a tuneup some asshat needs to lose his job.

While I’ll agree they are losing a lot, the portal class they are bringing in is good, Jordan Travis is a good QB, he can sling it and he’s got wheels

Wow. Appreciate the breakdown and synopsis.

Downvoted but he’s right. Florida State does not match the sheer talent of an LSU. There is no Harold Perkins or Will Campbell level talent. Verse is certainly a first rounder but there are tiers. Perkins and Campbell, alone, may end up top five picks in the 2025 draft. Not sure what’s difficult to grasp in that regard. Though Florida State will challenge Clemson and Carolina for the ACC. LSU takes the game by a smaller double digit margin.

I e Lacy a lot, but he needs to really step up and improve his catching ability. He dropped some crucial passes in our losses this year. Like momentum killing level

So if I'm reading this correctly we have 77 scholarship players on the roster as of now?
Do we have the opportunity to get up to the full 85?
Do we have the opportunity to get up to the full 85?
