Next coach must rebuild the trenches first

2019 being a exception, LSU football is best with strong O and D lines. Even in bad years teams had to contend with the big guys upfront despite little QB production. It’s hard to watch us get pushed around by the UCLAs and Kentuckys.

How quickly a new coach will succeed will come down to rebuilding the trenches.

Next year is a 9-3/10-2 season with any new coach

Our WR talent is best in America

Feels like a distant dream right now. I just don’t see the lines get there in a year.

It will take more than WRs, way more.

There is an absolute PLETHORA of talent on the Dline. I-line remains a mystery but a lot of the young guys have gotten playing time this year.

If Napier were hired, his first call would be to Rob Sale. He has prior experience as an assistant S&C coach at ALA, he played for Saban when at LSU, is from Monroe and can recruit N LA, has an excellent working relationship with Napier, and is a damn good OL coach. All positives for LSU.

I think Napier is on Woodward's top 5 list, but SW wants to make a grand slam / bigger name hire.

I know Rob and his family. Unless he’s fired from The Giants, he’s not going anywhere.

Curious… Do people blame Davis for the OL woes? I don’t because he inherited a shite situation.

I guess I blame O regardless of positional coach.

I don't blame the sorry OL performance and abysmal running game on Davis either. However, when the new HC is hired, he usually brings in his own coaching staff. I like Davis and would have no problem if he's retained.

Even with him it’s still Kentucky. You don’t get pushed around this badly by Kentucky when you’re LSU. Well I guess we do now.

3 or even 4 losses would be reasonable. Hopefully better, but it could take him a year to clean up his predecessor's mess.

O has really failed recruiting the O line and the D line isn’t nearly as good as I thought they could be

Not blaming Davis or Cregg. I blame O. Our OL talent level is not as bad as our offense makes it look. We have no identity on offense. None.
