New York Times article on LSU and Joe Burrow winning the Heisman

New York Times "Joe Burrow Wins the 2019 Heisman Trophy in a Record-Breaking Landslide"

"Burrow was an overwhelming favorite. He broke the record for the largest margin of victory, which was set by O.J. Simpson in 1968, and was voted first on 90.7 percent of all ballots, besting the previous record of 86.7 percent set by Troy Smith in 2006. Burrow is the second L.S.U. player to win the award, joining Billy Cannon, who won in 1959."

It's crazy that Troy Smith had the previous most lopsided win because he had the worst national championship game I've ever seen.

This was one of my favorite parts of the article.

Also, NYT's reported LSU is a 13 pt favorite over OU.

This! The way it reported on LSU's dramatic offensive evolution after 20 years stuck in one offense was noteworthy.

Was about to post the same excerpt.

Maybe the OP could credit the writer? I got paywalled when I looked for it.

Whoever wrote this needs to be set straight on the USC thing.

Reported by BILLY WITZ

I copied and pasted because of the paywall. I could view it because of my Google account.

I saw that too! How pathetic. Typical NY Times. Other than that, it was a decent article.

In 2003 LSU won the BCS championship game but the AP voted USC as the #1 team. USC thus claimed a share of thentional championship.

USC declared themselves co-champions. Idiots in the press enabled it because they were bitter about the BSC taking away their control.

AP designated So Cal as their NC. Both teams visited the White House at the same time. Bush 2 in W lite moment offered his WHAT Yard if the two teams wanted to settle it. While it was a joke I wonder how many players wished they would have had the equipment to go out and do just that.

Great find. Thank's for posting.

Witz's CliffsNotes description of LSU's offense is the best I've seen. Kudos
quote:

"Joe Brady, a 30-year-old receivers coach plucked from the New Orleans Saints staff, worked with offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger to build a scheme that allows Burrow to walk up to the line of scrimmage and, with a vast array of offensive weapons, just before and just after the snap, hunt defensive formations for mismatches."

I would add the italicized phrase, but damn good description as it stands.
