Congrats to the 6 new millionaires the LSU football program has produced this weekend...

Here is what each draft position was signed for last year that each LSU player was drafted in this year.

Chad Jones - 76 overall - 3 years 1.795 million (610k signing)
Brandon Lafell - 78 overall - 4 years 2.54 million (794k signing)
Perry Riley - 103 overall - 4 years 2.27 million (519k signing)
Al Woods - 123 overall - 4 years 2.2 million (451k signing)
Trindon Holiday - 197 overall - 4 years 1.84 million (97k signing)
Charles Scott - 200 overall - 4 years 1.84 million (93k signing)

Good luck to all. I hope all these guys make the rosters and get their entire contract amount...

I am just very curious, maybe someone reading this will know, lets take Chad Jones for example. He puts his name on the line and they write him a ck. for 610K, when he reports to camp does he start drawing on the balance in the form of a salary. Any one know how this works?

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure he's paid the signing bonus upfront and get checks weekly and incentive bonuses for performance

If you make the roster, you get a game check every week. Basically your yearly salary would be divided by 16 and paid during the season. In addition, you may have different incentives based on performance that are paid as soon as you hit that level of performance. Also, some contracts have a roster bonus but these are usually tied to veteran players and paid in spring if the team plans on keeping the player for the next year. Roster bonuses are usually tied to the end of a long term contract...

XbengalTiger, are you saying that he does not get squat(other than the bonus) unless he makes the final cut and thus the team. Only then would he start getting 1/16 of the balance of his contract? Excuse my ignorance just trying to understand.

Yes, the contract is paid to active roster players. If you don't make the team, you don't get paid. The signing bonus is the only thing guaranteed. It's still not a bad deal for a young man that just got a free education and will now put 500k-750k in the bank to start their professional life weather it be in football or not... Teams, however, do expect their 1st-4th round picks to make the team. They are not looking to pay someone a 500k or more signing bonus that will not be around to help the team win. Sixth round picks on the other hand can go either way. That 100k Charles Scott will get is basically an audition check. He has to turn some heads and work his butt off to make the team.

Depends... If you think you should have gone much higher, you sign a 3 year deal for a little less money but you get to a new contract quicker. In year 4 when the other guys are making the last year of their salary, you are getting a new big signing bonus and starting your second contract which will pay better if you are a proven starter.

And have something to show for it after the contract is over besides memories of hookers and blow.

Rookies make approximately $1000 per week and veterans $1300 per week during training camp.
