What exactly did Lyles do that benefitted LSU?
How did paying him for a service that was available to every school in the country give us an unfair advantage?
What rules were broken?
We got a terrible product. Is that an NCAA violation? Since when?
They are trying to base a case on motive or intent and that can't be known.
Stupid.

yes they have....per USA Today
quote:
Seastrunk, his mother Evelyn and Lyles attended a football camp in 2009 at LSU, according to Lyles. LSU has paid Lyles $26,000 since 2008 for his recruiting work at Complete Scouting Services and at Elite Scouting Services, according to documents recently released by Vincent. LSU paid Lyles $6,000 last December for information and film on junior college players in California and Kansas, including No. 1-ranked junior college quarterback Zach Mettenberger of Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan. Mettenberger signed with LSU last December.

Good thing ESPN is not the NCAA. They are just looking for ratings and shooting in the dark like they always do. If they're wrong, they'll say oh well, if they're right they'll point to this saying they were. Now if Yahoo comes out with something damaging, be worried.

He's just saying that people pay market value for shoddy products all the time.

come on bro... do you really think lsu paid 6k for this dipshit's recruiting videos? this has been a cover for street agents to get "legitimately" paid for the past few years in big time college football.

We have paid for his services over an extended period. If the product he supplied was of such poor quality, it does raise an eyebrow as to why we continued to use him.
Probation was simply the setup for the knockout blow which will come later.

Has anyone ever considered that some of the material sent to lsu and Oregon is old and contains typed evaluations to show how accurate the scouting service is. What I am saying is that coaches don't pay these services to find big name players, they pay them to find the unknowns. If I was to send video and analysis (written before the recruit enrolled in school) of a past 2 star recruit who turned into an all sec player, I would legitimize my scouting.

32 videos at around $200 a piece means that you are probably getting shoddy work.
That is very cheap for original video that has to be shot and edited to be good.
A wedding photographer that does a good job will charge between $2000-3000 for a wedding on one day. Putting this stuff together is not cheap.
Looks to me like we paid bottom of the barrel prices for bottom of the barrel product. What's the big deal?
I still don't see what LSU has done wrong.

nah, lsu should be fine... this is a rampant problem all across at least the sec. if you take down lsu you better take down everyone.

Quite a different write up than what The Oregonian had:
Willie Lyles update: LSU received 32 player-video DVDs for $6,000
...based on that, it looks like LSU got what it paid for. Namely, the "2010 JUCO perState Package".

LSU received 32 DVDs of game and player highlight film for the $6,000 it paid Houston-based talent scout Willie Lyles for his "2010 JUCO perState Package," again raising the question of what Oregon received for its $25,000 payment to Lyles.
LSU released copies of the DVDs to The Oregonian on Thursday in response to a request under open-records law. As promised in Lyles' invoice, the videos included film of California and Kansas junior college players from the 2010-11 recruiting year.

You are seriously overreacting.

You are seriously under-reacting. When the media starts going after you/digging .... they'll find something.

Not sure about fricked but there are going to be some pretty hard questions to answer in the coming weeks over this..
Incompetent or not, paying Lyles and then not sending a notice saying the material was unsatisfactory and LSU will not be using him in the future just leaves LSU open to the interpretations of the NCAA.

Relax, the sky isn't falling:
quote:
LSU officials denied any other improper relationship between Lyles and any other recruits
“Our coaches and staff members only know him to be part of one of a dozen or so recruiting services we have contracted with,” senior associate athletic director Herb Vincent wrote in an e-mail. “We are aware of no other involvement.”
But Lyles hasn’t been a part of just one of these services. In December 2010, LSU paid $6,000 to Complete Scouting Services, according to Vincent. In 2009-10, during Randle’s recruitment as a high school junior, LSU also issued $10,000 payment to Elite Scouting Services. At the time, Lyles also worked for Elite, as a Texas/Louisiana scout, under company president Charles Fishbein.
Furthermore, Elite’s website’s “About” section is worded in places identically to Lyles’ site’s home page, claiming to be a service that offers “in-depth information on…student athletes, but also creates relationships with players, their families, and coaches as well.” (I told you to remember that phrase.)
LSU also paid $10,000 in 2007 to the now-defunct MSL Combines, a company Lyles worked for as a scout, also under Fishbein. This is also the same year Peterson committed to LSU, although LSU paid MSL months in advance of Peterson’s announcement to attend LSU at the 2008 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
The grand total from LSU to employers of Lyles (so far): $26,000.
Based on everything I've seen so far, we're good to go.

For the last fricking time, the $26k wasn't to Lyles. It was to a company he was working for. Where the frick have you been?

I don't think we have anything to worry about as far as the videos are concerned. It looks like we did all the right paper work for that.
The thing that concerns me is that picture of him with Seastrunk and a couple of other recruits at the Florida game in 2009. If we were already paying him then, that could come back to bite us.

No, you're overreacting. That entire sum wasn't paid specifically to Lyles...you obviously haven't been following the situation.
