Ever thought that maybe that's the point?
How much sense would it make for Lamar to put up a sign that looks nothing like a Lamar sign?

If it was digital, I would agree with you.

who said it had to be a lamar sign in the first place? if lamar only wants to put up a billboard then oh i dont know..dont use lamar.

People aren't complaining about the content of the sign. They are complaining about how it looks. The intimidator sign would be great on the I-10, but it does look cheesy and cheap in the stadium.

of course it does but you're just bitching for the sake of bitching according to some.

When it was first put up in the old alex box there was no digital boards that were in the legitimate price range for College athletics. Especially Baseball. Now i think they are keeping the old one because many grew to love it. IMO, progress is not always good. Some times you need to lean on tradition. But then again that is just my opinion, as it is some of y'alls' that it is ugly. Might have been too strong in above post.
ETA: There would still be a hefty price tag for a digital board of that size. In this economic climate, I think athletics are trying to keep their use of money under a little tighter raps.

Apparently the athletic department. I don't think Lamar just showed up one night in ski masks and planted the dang thing.
And again, why would Lamar put up a sign to advertise themselves that looked nothing like a Lamar sign?

what's wrong with the "billboard" style? it's like the back of the football scoreboards.
is it really feasible to install a second video board (which if it wasn't hd, the bitchign woudl be even more). i like the intimidator. i remember it from when i was going to baseball camps back in the day and it's tradition.
what other "middle ground" type sign would there be (for people bitching that a billboard is dumb)?

dress it up in some brick or something of that nature. it wouldnt be too hard to make it look at least a little bit classy.

also, i noticed you had a beef with the new scoreboard, what up?

IMHO - there's not much choice in the matter. LSU needed a sign. Who else would they call? Lamar eats some, if not all, of the cost of the structure for advertising and LSU gets their sign.
It's one of those things you just can't really avoid.

Total cost to move Intimidator and build new support structure is around $65K. TAF picking up $36,500, Lamar donating the rest.

Yep, if it has to be there, then dress it up with bricks or stucco- make it look like they're trying to fit it into the architecture of the stadium. The regular billboard look is just plain bad in our nice, new stadium.

ok, so we add $100k to the price-tag... who pays it?

Stucco and/brick adds $100k? Can I be your contractor?

So, it’s gonna float in the air? Or you suspect a pipe that holds only the sign could support all of that? no base? How bout foundation/concrete/pilings/rebar? Plus all that labor. Not to mention engineering adn design costs.
You sound like an architect “oh, just do it at no cost”…

i can agree that the "billboard" style is a bit tacky, but at the same time its beautifully obnoxious. i could maybe see dressing it up a bit to fit the style of the stadium (and no one at least not here has said that they wont) but i really dont understand what you want with a digital scoreboard...
pay 3x as much to have it scroll... what? the years? the number? then a geaux tigers? in my opinion THAT is truly tacky and stupid.
all i have to say is that the fans said that if we win the NC then an intimidator should be brought to the new stadium. the AD is doing that, and regardless of what they put up SOMEONE was going to bitch.
just enjoy the intimidator for what its worth... a shitload of championships

How about just bricking up the brown ugly side-of-the-interstate post that holds it up? Nothing major, just dress the damn thing up so that it looks as if they didn't pull it off of LA 42 and stick it in the stadium.
