Will Chavis install a new defensive scheme, or will they continue to run the same one they have been running?

Pretty sure he runs a 4-3 with variations of such so it will probably look pretty much the same as formations.

As far as game planning and actual "scheming" I sure as hell hope he makes some changes.

Chavis runs a 4-3 and is well known for his mustang package (like it or not).

A Zone package consisting of the CB's playing 10 yards off the ball used on third and longs. Chavis was forced to use this when he didn't have the horses on the D-line that he did in the 90's. His D was very agressive when he had a good DL and I would imagine that he would use a scheme that looks more like the ones Tennessee used in the 90s.

Chavis detractors at UT claim Chavis' achilles was third and long. They say it will be a disappointment for LSU fans. My hope is LSU will have the talent to keep that from occurring.

pretty much the opposite of what LSU did during Saban's years when we relied on big corners to man up while sending 5+ guys to attack the QB.

We can probably expect quite a few opponents to convert on 3rd and long at least in the early part of the year

If that is the case I will not be a fan of Chavis; you have to put pressure on the QB and play tight D in the SEC. We have the talent so I hope he doesn't waste it. Should be interesting.

Vols fans called the mustang package 3rd and Chavis because of all the 3rd down conversions due to soft coverage.

One thing I really liked was about four or five years ago was his adjustment of D lineman pre snap where they were all moving around so the offense couldn't get a pre snap read.

Lets pray he comes out wanting to play aggressive. Playing soft, well we know the result
